Darrell McFadden & The Disciples
II Sides To Every Story
For this the first review of the year 2001 we take a look at a group who has recently been taking the nation by storm. Rev. Darrell McFadden & The Fantastic Disciples are by no means new comers to the quartet industry. However, this new release has gained them the attention they have deserved for many years. This project is jammed full of every style of gospel from extreme Contemporary to down home traditional.
Virtually all of the songs on this project are hit material. This project showcases the many talented lead vocalists of the group. They are known as probably one of the most vocally talented groups on the road. Pastor Darrell Mcfadden is well known for his powerful gravely voice that demands the attention of the listener. He definitely shows this on probably the best drive song of the year "Help Me". Surprisingly enough he is equally talented at singing slow ballads such as the comical "Two Face". This song tells of those church people who say one thing and do another. Other lead vocalists on the project include the multitalented Prathan "Spanky" Williams who is well known for his work with all the groups on the World Wide Gospel label. Also, listeners are introduced to the equally powerful lead vocals of Minister Shiloh Brown.
Songs of note on this project include many Disciple classics and also some new compositions. The "Live" portion of the project features mainly classic Disciple songs such as "City", "Something On The Inside", and "Welcome Home". As one could imagine it is extremely hard to pick favorites with 18 songs on one project. For the traditionalist the second half of the project is geared towards your tastes. The first half of the project includes songs such as the near R&B crossover "Mary Mary". The project is no different from any of Rev. Mcfadden’s earlier projects giving the listener a taste of both contemporary and traditional. Other songs of note include probably my favorite song of the year "TearDrops". The song tells of how God will always be by your side through thick and thin. On a whole this project is by far one of the top 5 of 2000. I give Rev. Darrell McFadden & The Disciples "II Sides To Every Story" a 9 out of 10.
