This month we present to some and introduce to others the
Junior Angels
of Newton, Mississippi.
Their new CD is titled Blessed. This is an exciting new group
that has developed a style that is unique but still traditional gospel music.
Their music incorporates the best of musical arrangements from secular groups of
the 70s and traditional gospel music, with just a hint of contemporary peppered
thought out some of the songs.
The members of the group are Joseph Magee, Eric Magee,
Johnny Jones, AL Moncrief, Kevin Temple, Antwain Brown, Bill Wheaton, Sedrick
Moore, and Tyrell Jones. The Juniors are not only great singers, but they are
excellent musicians and arrangers. The CD was produced by Junior Angels, along
with Madison Magee and Terrence Davis.
The group members love for God and sincerity in singing
praises to our Lord and Savior are definitely revealed in this project. The ten
tracks on this project will certainly get your feet moving.
Often a group will have one good lead singer and others
that will from time to time sing lead on one song on a project. However,
according to the liner notes, the Junior Angels have four exceptional lead
singers. They are Joseph Magee, Al Moncrief, Kevin Temple and Antwain Brown.
The songs on the project are Ready, Save
Me A Seat, Just One Touch, It Was Jesus,
Its A Jesus, Born Again, Make Me Over,
Stay With Me Lord, Train, Amazing Grace,
and Blessed. All of the songs are worthy of your attention.
There are few we would like to spotlight.
Make Me Over will certainly have you
clapping your hands and tapping youre toes. Make sure you have plenty of space
around you, because you just might get your shout on with this one. Just
One Touch is the Juniors version of the story from St. Matthew 9:
20 22. Although this story has been sung about over and over and over and
over by many groups, the
Juniors
rendition is different than any that you have heard. It is a great arrangement
to a song that tells a story that has been sang about so much that it is almost
expected to be somewhere in every groups repertoire.
Another traditional song that has a very unique
arrangement is Amazing Grace. You may find yourself comparing
the Juniors version of this song to some of the best gospel
quartet singers of the 70s and 80s. This song has the best background harmony
of the entire CD. You will not get tired of listening to the
Juniors
sing this song.
Blessed will cause you to take inventory
of all that is going on in your life and it will have you thanking God that
things are not as difficult as they could be. The song reminds us of the many
blessings of God. After listening to this song you will realize that you are
really Blessed. The musical arrangement to this song will
definitely have you thinking of some of the secular groups of the 70s and 80s.
But, dont let the arrangement prevent you from getting the message from the
song; and that is you are BLESSED!
The
Junior Angels
have effectively blended a bit of the past with the present to give us the sound
of futuristic gospel quartet music with scripturally based messages. This group
should have a lasting positive impact on the lives of many and on the gospel
music industry. You are bound to be Blessed by this CD.
You certainly want to add this CD to
your collection. It is a good project. We give
Junior Angels' Blessed
an 8.5 out of 10.
You may not be able to find this CD
in your local record store. You should be able to purchase it by clicking
on Blessed
and sending an email to Deacon Shumpert Watts requesting the CD. Click on
the title to hear Amazing
Grace."
