This month we review the new
compilation CD by MALACO titled Yes! Quartet. This is the
first ever compilation CD to be reviewed by Gloryland Gospel. So, why this
one? Well, first it is a great CD. Second, there seem to be a trend
in the gospel quartet genre recently of labels releasing good compilation CDs.
Thirdly, we always look for messages in the songs on the CDs we review.
And in that category, this CD delivers. Forth, unlike many compilations,
this CD incorporate newly released, yet to be released and previously released
songs. And finally, there is a good mixture of legendary groups and groups
recently introduced to the national stage.
During the month of February 2007 MALACO decided to recognize the gospel quartet
genre by dubbing the month as National Quartet Month. They released the CD
titled Yes! Quartet. It is a compilation CD with two tracks
each from
The Pilgrim Jubilees,
Spencer Taylor & The Highway QC's,
The Jackson Sisters,
True Believers,
Slim & The Supreme Angels,
and
The Sensational Nightingales.
The release of this CD was an effort by MALACO to energize quartet music in the
gospel industry.
One of the most significant aspects to this CD will be the two (2) songs by
Slim and The Supreme Angels.
The songs are from the final full CD recording by
Slim.
The title of the CD is Judgment. The two songs on the compilation CD are
"At The Judgment" and "Lift Him Up." The
entire CD, Judgment, was released shortly after
Slim’s
death on February 25, 2007. The two (2) songs chosen to be on the compilation CD
showcase the group longevity and awesome talents. After listening to these
two (2) tracks, you will certainly want to obtain the entire last recorded CD of
Slim with the Supreme Angels
- Judgement.
The CD begins with the legendary
Pilgrim Jubilees
singing the title track from their new CD – Jesus Got Me Off.
The other song by the
Jubes
on this compilation is "I
Can Praise Him Now." These songs are vintage
Jubes.
Spencer Taylor and The Highway QC’s
new project is titled It Hasn’t Always Been Easy. Along with the
title track from their new project is the song "Peace In The Midst of The
Storm." "In The Midst of The Storm" has never sound
so great. From the smooth lead vocals to the tight background harmony this
song is outstanding.
True Believers
contribution to this compilation
includes "I’ll Worship You" and the ever popular "In This
Place." In This Place is the title track from
True Believers’
last CD release.
The Jackson Sisters’
When God Is In The Building was a big hit when it was released in
1995. The title track and "My Help" are on the compilation
CD.
The gentlemen of songs,
The Sensational Nightingales,
2005 release Let Us Encourage You is still in heavy rotation
around the country. From that project "I'm Taking Back Everything
That The Devil Stole From Me" and "Every Promise In The Book Is
Mine" are on the compilation CD.
As you can see from the comments about, there are some great songs on this
compilation CD. It is also interesting to note the outstanding group of
producers that contributed to this CD. They are Darrell Luster, Rev.
Milton Biggham, Castro Coleman, Eric Sharper, Dwayne Witherspoon, Rev. Howard
“Slim” Hunt, Spencer Taylor, III and Lynn “Fuzzy” Taylor.
Even if you have the full CD by
every group represented on this compilation CD, you still would certainly want to add this CD to
your collection. It is a great project. We give
Yes! Quartet
a 9 out of 10.
You should be able to purchase this
CD at your local record store. You can also purchase it on line by
