The Mighty Supremes
Awesome God "LIVE"
This month we take you to the state
of Louisiana, and introduce to some and present to others
The Mighty Supremes.
Their 2005 recording, which is the subject of this review, is titled
Awesome God, LIVE. This CD is indeed awesome.
Although the CD was recorded in 2005, it has basically been on the self. The
project was recently picked up by one of the fastest growing gospel music label
Low Rush Music, LLC. And, now Low Rush and the group are working on a
DVD of this project.
This label is positioning itself to
be a major player in the gospel music industry and particular within the gospel
quartet genre. This label has over fifteen artists/groups in its camp.
Therefore, they have earned the title of a national label. As such,
The Mighty Supremes
is being review as a national release.
This is a live recording and you can feel the energy from the congregation when
the services begin and from the group throughout the recording. The recording,
by the way, occurred at The Greater Covington Center, Covington, Louisiana.
At the time of the recording of this project the group members were Junius
Clark, Charles Watson, Rev. Austin Clark, Sr., Roy A. Clark, August BoBo
Clark, Jr., Ray Rock Clark, Willie L. Laurent, Jr., John Clark, Jr., Nolan
Booker, and Jimmy popeye Flot. Without a doubt, these guys can sing. They are
obviously very polished professionals. As a result of their extraordinary musical talents, the
group consists of several members that can sing lead.
For instance Ray Clark sings lead on
Thank You Lord, I May Not Find it Down Here, and
on Spirit Of The Lord. Junius Clark sings lead on Ive
Been Redeem, Please Be Patient With Me, Meet Me
Lord, and Awesome God.
Charles Watson sings lead on Come On And Repent, and Jesus
Ill Never Forget. Ray A. Clark sings lead on This Joy That I
Have. August Clark, Sr. sings lead on Times Like These.
While August Clark, Jr., sings lead on You Sinners. And, Charles
Watson and Junius Clark share lead duties on Stomp The Devil.
Not only can
The Mighty Supremes
sing, but the members are also prolific songwriters. According to the
liner notes all of the songs, or arrangements, were done by members of the
group.
There are many songs of note on this 14 track CD. There are actually 13
songs on the CD. Jesus I Will Never Forget is divided into
2 parts. There is something on this CD for everyone that likes good gospel
music. You have upbeat songs like Thank You Lord and Stomp
The Devil. Then there are the thought provoking ballads like Ive
Been Redeemed and Please Be Patient With Me. Choir
members will probably like Spirit of The Lord." Watch for
choirs around the country to start singing
The Mighty Supremes' arrangement to this song. This
Joy I Have will probably be considered the drive song. And the
guys go to the country with You Sinners.
As reflected by the credits above, these guys are extremely talented.
They write the songs and arrange the music. And, as stated above they can really
sing.
The background harmony on each song is relatively tight. The musicians never overshadow the singers. There is just the right amount
of instrumentation on each song. Unfortunately, the enthusiasm displayed
by the congregation at the beginning of the recordings seems to wean as the
recording progresses. This shortcoming is not enough to ignore this CD.
There is truly a spiritual and positive message in each of the songs. This
CD deserves to be in your collection.
On the whole this release from
The Mighty Supremes
is a great traditional gospel quartet CD. We give
The Might Supremes'
Awesome God, LIVE a 9 out of 10. This CD should be in
stores during the first quarter of 2007. You may also contact the label to
place your advance order for the CD. Visit the labels website at
