The Racy Brothers

There's Not a Friend - Live in Little Rock

It was seven years between The Racy Brothers' self-titled project and their 2004 release “I Won’t Forget.”  Within a year of “I Won’t Forget” the brothers are back with “There's Not a Friend - Live in Little Rock  This live recording deserves to be played on every gospel radio station.  And the video is deserving of being spotlighted on every gospel television program.

There is a lot of energy on this recording.  While listening to the CD, you do feel that you are sitting at the concert.  It is obvious that the brothers are enjoying the recording as much as the audience.

As is the case with prior recordings from the brothers, this release features a great variety while still staying in the bounds of the current era’s definition of traditional gospel music. The sound is very consistent and tight throughout the project. The song compositions are strong and focus on The Racy Brothers' trademark ability to relay powerful messages through song.  This should not be a surprise since Walter Witherspoon and Dwight Gordon lend their ever powerful talents to this project.

This project features many outstanding selections that are sure to be radio and fan favorites. By far one of the favorite selections is in fact a medley of songs.  Track five is sure to get much airplay.  The medley includes songs such as “Live So God Can Use You,” “Wait Until My Change Come,” “Ain’t It Sweet Just To Know,” and “Bye and Bye.”  This medley will have you tapping your toes, clapping your hands and by the time it ends, you may even be shedding tears.

Another song that you will really appreciate is “Walk Through The Streets.”  Listen as the brothers tell a story in song.  They really give you a mental picture of ‘that City’ where one day you want to “Walk Through The Streets.”  This song may not get much airplay, but you will definitely have difficulty resisting the challenge to play it over and over.  Also, it is worth noting that the background is very tight on this song.

Two additional songs we want to bring to your attention are “Oh Lord Have Mercy (parts 1 and 2)”  “God’s Been Good (parts 1 and 2).”  “Oh Lord Have Mercy” is probably one of the best slow ballads to be recorded by any quartet group in quite sometime.  The selections “God’s Been Good (parts 1 and 2)” definitely put one in the mind of The Canton Spirituals and The Southwinds.  Very clear perfect harmony is the underlying theme for each selection.

While there are definitely other selections that can be noted in this review these are just a few of the selections that make this project a must for any fan of gospel music, not just fans of gospel quartet.  This project takes you from the 60's and 70’s solid traditional gospel quartet sound to today’s style of gospel quartet music.

While listening to the CD you will suddenly realize that every song is in someway ministering to you.  The remaining songs are “Remember Me,” “I Decided,” “Build A Fence,” “There’s Not One,” “What A Time,” “Through It All,”  “Prayer” and “God Can Do Anything

This new project makes up for any shortcoming in The Racy Brothers' last project.  On the whole this new release from The Racy Brothers is an exceptional project.  We give The Racy Brothers’ “There's Not a Friend - Live in Little Rock” a 9.5 out of 10.  To purchase this project click "here."  Click on the title to hear “Medley (Part 1)
