Rev Walter Ellis & The Country Boys

As far as gospel go, few can equal Rev. Ellis and The Country Boys in terms of the spirit, popularity and signature sound.  Music is a ministry and each song is a message. Rev. Ellis and The Country Boys have worked hard to build their music ministry and carry the message of God's redeeming grace eve where they go.

The group dates back to 1960 when the late David Dickerson first formed the group in the small town of Deatsville, Alabama.  The group was known then simply as the Gospelaires of Deatsville, Alabama and though the group name and members have evolved over the years, the group's soulful blend of harmony and rhythm, coupled with its unflinching commitment to the gospel message has never wavered.

The Country Boys are truly a family affair.  Under directions of Rev. Ellis, the group is made up of brothers, sons, nephews and a brother-in-law. They travel across the country presenting their distinctive gospel sound to enthusiastic audiences.

The Country Boys trace their deep inspirational roots to lifelong passion for the church, gospel music, and the legendary music of the Williams Brothers.  Though they've often looked up to and admired their more famous Mississippi brethren, The Country Boys' sound is unique and is often described as "smooth, yet explosive" mirroring the hand-clapping, toe-tapping, foot-stomping, fiery spirit often experienced during Sunday morning worship.

The group recorded its first albumin 1977 with J&B Records (Jackson, Mississippi), which included the instant hit "In Times like These" - a favorite on morning gospel radio programs across the area.  Since then, they have recorded with Leonard Williams on the album "Miracle" with Melendo Records, Shurfine Records (Benson, North Carolina) and Hot Spot Records. They have produced several recordings, including the group’s first live recording "Rev. Walter Ellis & The Country Boys "Live in Montgomery" in October 2001, featuring Harvey Watkins Jr. of the Canton Spirituals, which was widely distributed in markets across the country.  In 2002, the recording was ranked No.3 for best independent release on Glorylandgospel.com and features such songs as "He's Alright with Me", "Hold to His Hand", "Holy Spirit", "Save Me Lord" and "In Times Like These."  The group recently started their own record label (CB Ministry) and recorded their latest project "Live at the Rest" which was produced by Eric Sharper and co-produced by Rev. Walter Ellis. This move gives them additional outlets to spread the gospel's good news through music for generations to come.

The Country Boys have performed with such notable gospel artists as The Williams Brothers, Dottie Peoples, The Canton Spirituals, Slim and the Supreme Angels, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Lee Williams, Doc McKenzie, The Christianaires, as well as other gospel artists.

Today, more than 40 years later, the sounds and inspirational message of The Country Boys' music have touched and encouraged people across the nation.  And through the grace of God they will continue Praising and lifting the name of Jesus through songs.
