Margaret Allison
& The Angelic Gospel Singers
Go On
The words Legend and Legendary are reserved for “extremely well known, famous or renowned” individuals. Well, Margaret Allison is certainly “Legendary” and embodies and deserve the title “Legend.” Ms. Allison organized her group, The Angelic Gospel Singers, in 1944. Since that time, they have, over and over, brought us the best in traditional gospel quartet recording. The longevity of this group should be a source of encouragement to all gospel quartet groups, but particularly to female gospel quartet groups. Ms. Allison has shown that there is a place in gospel quartet for a great female group.
Now we are favored with a new project by the Angelics. The new project is titled “Go On.” This twelve track project is sure to be a hit with the many fans of the Angelics.
As with most of the Angelics projects, Ms. Allison sings lead on most if not all of the songs. The first song is the title track “Go On” is a good song. However, the comparison of life to “Life Railroad” is probably the most remarkable song on the project. With this song the Angelics does for the Railroad what the Dixie Hummingbirds did for the automobile with “Christian Automobile.” Listen carefully as Ms. Allison tell you to watch the curve, tunnel and bridges in life. Her use of the railroad in contrasting our daily life is quite interesting.
“In The Garden” is the next song on the project. This song has been recorded by many groups, most recently by The Gospel Drifters. The Angelics voices really blends well on this song.
Ms. Allison next reminds us that “Just Jesus” alone is the answer to the trails and tribulations you may experience in life. Now that you know the answer to your problem, the Angelics ask “What Have You Done For The Lord Today.” The song “You Don’t Know What The Lord Has Done For Me” is the counterpart to “What Have You Done For The Lord.” It is fitting after asking what the Lord has done for us to ask what we have done for the Lord.
“You Can’t Make Me Doubt Him,” “Tell Jesus,” and “Back To My Father’s Home” are great song with powerful messages about your relationship with our Lord and Savior. The songs have upbeat tempos and great background vocals.
“Jesus Paid It All” is a very smooth slow song. The message is really in the title. This song could become a one that you hear often during the Easter celebration period. There’s A God Somewhere” and “I’ll Go All The Way” are the last two tracks on the project.
On the whole this release from The Angelics, even with few new songs, is a good project. We give Margaret Allison & The Angelic Gospel Singers “Go On" an 8 out of 10. To order this project click “Go On.” Click on the title to hear “Life Railroad.”
