On Time

Every now and then you pick up a video and just want to play it over and over.  Well, that is what you may find yourself doing after playing the new video of Leomia Boyd.  The video is titled On Time.  This video takes 4 of the songs from the CD of the same title and gives you a visual of the sounds that is just outstanding.

Ms. Boyd is a former Grammy Award Nominee.  After viewing this video, you will realize that she deserves all the accolades that have come her way and those that are on the way.  She is backed up on this video by three terrific singers.  Two of the background singers are her daughters; Misty, a graduate of Jackson State University, is an elementary school teacher.  Her twin, Christie is a Registered Nurse.  So, not only can these ladies sing, they are well educated and thus are more than capable of taking care of business in the rocky waters of the gospel music industry.  And, by the way, Ms. Boyd’s husband (Johnny Boyd) has an earned Doctorate Degree in Chemistry.

With the brief bio of the group and family members, it is easy to see way they would expect nothing but the best in the video.  And they deliver.

The four songs on the video are “Four Days Late,” “Hold On,” “Let Him In,” and “Steal Away.”   The song “Four Days Late” is a masterpiece all by itself.  The video of this song takes the significance and message of the song to another level.  This song alone is worth the price of the video.

The video was recorded at Daniel Missionary Baptist Church, Aberdeen, Mississippi, where the Reverend Alonzo Sykes is the pastor.  There are also scenes on the video from around the town of Aberdeen.  One of the significant shots is an image from a cemetery that we have learn shows the final resting place of the parents of Dr. Ella Mahmoud.  Ordinary such comment would not make it into a review of a gospel quartet video.  However, it this case, the images enhances the message being conveyed in the song, so it is worth noting.

The production on this project is superb.  The video is more impressive than the CD.  In fact, the video adds a dimension to the project that truly makes this a must have video.  You will want to acquire the CD and the DVD.   The video, like the CD, was released through Hi-Lites Music Ministries, Inc.

The quality of the sound on the video is one of the best.  There are no variations in the recording level of any of the songs.  The lighting is also superb.  As a result of good lighting, there are great camera shots.  There are many close-ups of the members of the group.  Also, great creativity is shown in the way the production team took advantage of video effects and motion scripts.  So, you never get the impression that the singers are just standing still while singing.

There are two (2) great lengthy interviews on the video.  You really get to know the group up close and personal.

The project is vintage traditional gospel quartet.  If you are looking for a good video that captures the essence of Leomia Boyd, or that of a great singer, then you will want to add this video to your collection.

Even with only four (4) songs on it, overall it is still a great video.  We give the video Leomia Boyd's "On TIme" a 9.5 out of 10.  Click on the picture above to view a clip from the video.***  To order your copy of the DVD click HERE.
