One of the treasures in gospel music is a video of
The Singing Disciples.
This group really made an impact in gospel music during the 90s. This
hard hitting group from Baltimore, Maryland was on the Atlanta International
Records label. This videos, Reach Out, is one of two they
did on the label. The other being Live In Baltimore.
The members of the group on the video that is the subject
of this review are Jack Branche, Lacy Wright, Melvin Kim Derr, Robert Evans and
Paul Houston. They are at their best on this video. Lacy Wright has
one of the smoothest voices in gospel music. To see him perform "To
See His Face" and "Cross of Calvary" really makes you
appreciate his awesome talents. And, that is not to take anything away
from the talents of the other lead singers, Jack Branche and Melvin Kim Derr.
In 1995, The Singing Disciples recorded the video that is
the subject of this review. We are not told where the recording actually
ocurred. Neither are we given the specific date of the recording.
In spite of not knowing this information, this is still a powerful gospel
quartet video.
The sixty (60) minutes video begins with Reach Out. The other songs on the video are To
See His Face,
What A Day, Walk Through The Valley, Cross
of Calvary, Steal Away, Rapture,
and Do Lord, Remember Me.
The production on this project is great. The
auditorium where the recording took place was a great venue for the recording. The stage was definitely large enough for
all of the members of the group and the musicians.
The live recording was well attended and the audience was
certainly an integral part of this recording from the beginning to the end.
And the guys did not disappoint the attendees. They were awesome on very
song. Because of good lighting you are able to really see the enjoyment on the
attendees faces and share in their joy.
The quality of the sound is superb. There are no
variations at all in the recording level of the songs. The lighting is outstanding.
As a result of good lighting, there are great camera shots. There are many
close-ups of the members of the group. There are very clear shots of the
audience.
If you are looking for a great gospel quartet video that captures the
essence of
The Singing Disciples, then you will want to add this video to
your collection. You get a full song service, about sixty minutes of the best of
The Singing Disciples.
This video definitely deserves to be in your collection.
If you like good hard hitting gospel quartet music than you must find this
video. If you want a significant piece of gospel quartet history in your
collection than you must add this video. If you just like good gospel
quartet music, then this video is a must.
This is another video that is priceless. We give this video a 10 out of
10. This one will probably be very hard to find.
