Several years ago MALACO started what is
called 601 Music series. Essentially, MALACO would take the best recordings
from a particular artist in their camp and issue a compilation CD. For fans of
gospel quartet music, the acquisition of these CDs was the best way to have in
your collection some of the recordings of your favorite gospel singer, without
having to purchase different recordings.
MALACO has done the same thing with videos
from artists in their camp. One of the video is
The Pilgrim Jubilees
Church Songs. This 601 Music video was released on December 23,
2005. So this month we review
The Pilgrim Jubilees
Church Songs.
There are 10 clips on this video. The
songs on the video are Bless Your House, Church Song,
Life Evening Sun, Too Close Safety of
Your Soul, Gods Been Good To Me, My Christian
Journey, "I Know It Was The Blood, No Grave Can
Hold Me Down, and I Love You.
The video takes you from
The Pilgrim Jubilees
Live From Jackson, Mississippi, which was released in 1990,
to Live in Birmingham and A Night to Remember. You will also find a clip from the
video Together As One 150 Years.
The project is vintage
Jubes.
One disappointment is that the song Church Song is the short
version. Dont look for any surprises from the
Jubes.
Clearly, MALACO decided to be safe and just take the various video clips just
as they are and package it as Church Songs. You will see Bo
Bo Harris, of The Fantastic
Violinaries on drum on the Bless
Your House and I Love You clips. Also, the Late
Roger Bryant, of The Jackson
Southernaires, joins the
Jubes
on My Christian Journey.
If you are looking for a good video that
captures the essence of The Pilgrim Jubilees, then you will want
to add this video to your collection. Unfortunately, you will not find any
interviews of his video. You will not find any credits at the end of the
video. You will not find any written information about the performances on the
video. What you will find is 52 minutes and 45 seconds of good old fashion
gospel quartet music that is appealing to both the ears and eyes.
Overall this is a good video. We do recommend
that you add this video in your collection. We give the video
The Pilgrim Jubilees'
Church Song an 8 out of a possible 10. Click on the picture
above to view a clip from the video.*** Click
