In 2003 The Williams Brothers recorded the live
project Still Here. The CD was awesome and we reviewed it in December 2003, giving it 10 out of 10. The video was released in 2004, and since its release it has been a favorite with television programs that play gospel videos. Therefore, for the month of May we review the video Still Here by
The Williams Brothers.
Since 1986 when The Williams Brothers gave us the concept video Im Just A Nobody, they have
been in the forefront of delivering great gospel video to the marketplace. Who can forget Still Standing, This Is Your Night, or The Best and More Live. We certainly were given a gospel treat with The Concert. Soullink Live1 and 2 are sure to become favorites.
It would not be a stretch to say that each of the videos is better than the last. Well, Still Here is certainly one of the best. Since we reviewed the CD in 2003, we will not again comment on the songs, except to
say that to see The Brothers actually performing the songs really make you feel a part of the service. It also gives you a better appreciation for the message being delivered in each song.
The video begins with a pictorial of The Brothers from the time they were
The Sensational Williams Brothers to the present. You will find yourself pushing the pause button on your video player and just studying the pictures. To realize that the group once consisted of five members, then four and now
three (and at one time wore afros) is quite an interesting footnote to the career (and longevity) of The Williams Brothers.
The concert was recorded at the Livingston Performing Arts Center, Morton, Mississippi. This venue is perfect for a live recording. The stage is quite large, so the Brothers do not have to share space with their
musicians. The lighting is one of the best yet for a gospel quartet video. As stated in the CD review, the sound quality is consistent throughout the recording.
Rick Joyner introduces The Brothers at the beginning of the concert. Dr. Bobby Jones does the
introduction for the second half of the concert. The Brothers really work the crowd and the crowd is on their feet during the entire recording. There is great audience participation on this recording.
You would not know it from the CD, but Green actually leaves the stage during the songs My Purpose and Tell Somebody. The chorale, The Enpraise Singers, joins Melvin and Doug during the
recording of these two songs. The chorale also joins Melvin, Doug and Green on the songs I Worship You and I Dont know Why. Paul Porter also joins the Brothers on the song I
Felt A Change.
There are many close-ups of the members of the group. There is a brief interview with The Brothers
about half-way through the recording. In addition, there is a bonus track containing backstage interviews with The Brothers and some of their friends. You are also treated to a great behind the scene observation of snippets
of the rehearsal for this recording.
Overall this is a great video. The Brothers have once again shown why they are the standard by which other groups are measured. You will certainly want to
have this video in your collection. We give the video The Williams Brothers' "Still Here" a 9.5 out of 10. To purchase your copy of the video click here.
