This month we take a look at the
brand new release from the Legendary Pilgrim Jubilees. With over 54 years of
music ministry behind them, it seems that the Jubes just keep getting better
and better. Their newest recording is titled “Jesus Got Me Off.” Known for
their hard driving style of quartet singing, the Jubes maintain their tradition
for continually releasing great gospel music. This new CD is sure to be a crowd
pleaser.
The CD is produced by Darrell Luster of The Sensational Nightingales.
Therefore, as expected, this project is nothing but pure traditional gospel
quartet music. The project includes 10 songs with brothers Clay & Cleve Graham
taking the lead vocals on most of the songs. And, of course the incomparable
Bobby McDougle unique string-instrumentation is prominent on each song. As with
most recordings by the Jubes, there is something on this project for everyone.
The songs on this CD are "Jesus Got Me Off,” “She's All
I've Got,” “I'm Enjoying My Blessings,” “I Can
Praise Him Now,” “Amazing Grace,” “I'm Gonna Take
My Rest,” “Jesus Gave Me A Light,” “Satan You Can't
Tempt Me,” “In This Place,” and “I Made It Over.”
It is difficult to select one or two songs from this project. This project
features many stand out selections that are sure to be radio and fan favorites.
We must draw your attention to “Amazing Grace.” The
Jubes’
version is over seven (7) minutes in length. Clay’s storytelling is
interwoven with some of the smoothest lead singing ever by the
Jubes.
In addition, each of the guys share lead duties. And, the background
harmony is superb. This song will have you taking out your handkerchief.
By the way, the title track, "Jesus Got Me Off," was written by
Jerry Mannery, James V. Steel and Darrell Luster. Ben Chandler wrote
"Jesus Gave Me A light." Major Roberson wrote "She’s All
I’ve Got" and "Satan You Can't Tempt Me." Darrell
Luster wrote "I Can Praise Him Now." Clay Graham wrote
"I Made It Over," "In This Place," and the arrangement
to "Amazing Grace." Clay and Darrell Luster wrote
"I’m Gonna Take My Rest." Cleve and Darrell Luster wrote "I’m
Enjoying My Blessings." As you can see, the
Jubes
were an integral part of every aspect of this project coming together.
The liner notes aptly reflects that the “Pilgrim Jubilees have come full circle
with this, their best CD by far. As you listen to songs of praise, hope, and
God’s Grace, the message are clear and simple. The soul stirring,
heart-thumping anointed of this legendary group continues to shine as a Beacon
Light, and The Jubes have remained steadfast in the race set before them.” We
would agree. This is one of the Jubes’ best projects.
On the whole this release from
The Pilgrim Jubilees
is a good project. You will definitely want to add this one to your
collection.
We give The Pilgrim Jubilees'
