When you think of the group
Revive, you immediately
think of Johnavon Sauls, aka Bo Peep. After a hiatus from the group, Sauls is
back. Their new recording, The Return, is the subject of this
review. And, it is apparent that Sauls return to the group enhances only what
was already a solid group.
The members of
Revive are Sheldon Pugh,
Mark Williams, Cornelius Williams and Johnavon Sauls. Fans of Revive will notice
from this lineup that these are the original members of the group. It is good to
see them back together again.
"This Time" is the opening song on the CD. Sauls make a
statement with this song. That being, he has not lost any of edginess to
his vocals and that he is willing to share lead duties with others in the group.
This song bridges the gap between the first CD (Live) of this group and
The Return project.
"From My Heart"
is the next song. This is actually one of the best songs on the CD.
The message is powerful. The vocals are outstanding. The background
harmony is tight. The guys seem to put a lot of energy into this song.
It is the one that will probably get the most airplay.
Although this group is know for hard hitting gospel quartet music, they also
have mastered the ballads. Listen closely to
"I Change."
The song speaks of the power of the Anointing. This is followed by
"One Accord."
This is a toe tapping selection that will immediately remind the listeners
of "Tell
The Lord About it."
This is one of the songs on this project that showcases the vocal strength
of this group. Fans can expect this one to be sung at live appearances.
The project slows back down with
"You Blessed Me."
This is another song with a very powerful message. It is one of those
songs that will become a favorite of fans of the group, and yet, it may not get
any airplay. That does not diminish the message in this song. After
acknowledging that God blessed us, the guys move into
"Call Him."
"Already Here"
is a reminder that God is always with us. He is already here to answer
your prayers. The harmony on this track is also worthy of note. Come
"Here To Prasie The
Lord"
is the next song. Ray Braswell, Jr. is listed as one of the musician on this
project. His influence can certainly be felt on this song. It has that
down home feel to it.
The project really slows down with
"When We All Get to
Heaven."
This is followed by
"Pushing Me."
And, the final song is
"I'll Be There."
For those that remember The Jackson Five's arrangement to I'll Be There,
you will recognize it in this song.
As stated above, Sauls shared lead duties on this project. Sheldon Pugh,
Mark Williams and even Gregg Kelly are credited, along with Sauls, with being
the lead vocals on this project.
Overall this is a very good project by Revive. You should be able to find
this CD in your local record store. We give
Revive’s
The Return an 8.5 out of 10. Click
