The Selvys
Get Up And Live
You Ain't Dead No More
This month we take you to Earle,
Arkansas and introduce to some and simply present to you
The Selvys.
Their new release is titled Get Up And Live You Ain't Dead No More.
For those who have attended the American Gospel Quartet Convention you know this
group. Over the past ten years they have been one of the consistent favorites
of the convention attendees. They are well known for their rendition of Dry
Bones. They have matured, as individuals, singers and musicians, to
the point that they are now ready to take on the world and minister the Word in
song.
Under the tutelage of Minister George
Stewart, Executive Director of the AGQC, they have honed their talents, learn
the music industry and patiently waited their turn to share the spotlight with
many of the giants in gospel music. This CD, by the way, was recorded at the 15th
gathering of the American Gospel Quartet Convention in January 2007. It was
released in March 2008. According to the liner notes, this "CD represents
the Selvys first International Release and is the manifestation of one of the
may blessings they have been ordained to deliver unto the world." Therefore, it is fitting that for the month of May we
review the freshman project by the
The Selvys.
This is a family group. The singers are
sisters. And, other family members make up the band. Rev. Selvy has faithfully
guided his daughters through the treacherous ups and downs of being gospel
singers. And, the reward, at least at this time, is a great CD.
She ladies have their own down home hard
driven style of gospel quartet music. Yet, you will find this CD very easy on
the ear. Songs of note are many on this release and each one has the makings of
being a fan favorite. There are fifteen songs on this CD. One of the songs, "Born
Again Invitation" is more like a sermonette or Alter Call. The other
songs on this project are God Is, Spiritual Flight,
On The Lord Side, Power of The Lord, Grace,
Grace Worship, Youre Worth It, Im Leaning, Past Me Not,
Bless Me, Break Me, Relief, Born
Again, and Dry Bones.
The project begins with Minister
Stewart's jubilant introduction of the group. During the introduction the band
begins the prologue to God Is. From that point on, the ladies
move from one song to another without skipping a beat. With fifteen songs to
choose from there is something on this CD for everyone. In terms of drive songs
this project has several. And, yes there are also praise and worship songs.
The group closed the recording with the signature rendition of "Dry Bones."
If you have ever seen these ladies perform this song at the AGQC you are
acquainted with the fact that they know how to work this song.
An uncomplicated message, clear lead
vocals, and harmonious backgrounds have always been the ingredients for a good
quartet song. The ladies have incorporated these ingredients into each of the
songs. Therefore, it is difficult to single out any one song for special
attention. By the end of the project you will realize that these ladies
are truly ministers of the Word. And, that they have put together a CD that
ministers to everyone; no matter what your situation, taste in music or plight
in life. You will be lifted by the project.
There are no synthesized or electronic
drum driven tracks on this recording. You know that you are experiencing some
of the best in pure traditional gospel quartet music in a live setting.
No only should this project be added to
your collection, it should be one that you play often and introduce to others.
This CD will really minister to you. So, why not introduce it to others so
that they may benefit from the Word being delivered by these young ladies.
The project should be available
everywhere. If you are not able to purchase it locally contact Last Psalms Ministry. We give
The Selvys
Get Up And Live You Ain't Dead No More a 9
out of 10. Click on the title to hear Pass
Me Not."
