True Believers
need no introduction to gospel quartet fans. This is one group that
delivers each time they go into the studio. In 2000 they recorded the CD
titled Dont Count Me Out. That CD contained many great
songs. Some will remember the hit, "Another Blessing." The
2000 CD was produced by Melvin Williams, Dennis Tobias, Dale Hall, Doug
Williams, and Paul Porter.
In 2004 they gave us the CD titled Home With Family And Friends.
That CD represented an outstanding LIVE recording. On the 2004 CD "Another
Blessing" became the Ooh Wee song. The CD was
produced by Dennis Tobias, Castro Coleman, Dale Hall, Terry Varnado, and Castro
Coleman.
Their new CD is Break Through. This is one of the groups
best CD to date. The group members have definitely raised their talents to
another level on this CD. The producers on Break Through are
Eric Sharper, Dwayne Weatherspoon, Dennis Tobias, Dale Hall, Terry Varnado, and
Antonio Coney.
Notice that there are at least two (2) producers common to all of these CDs.
That only aids in bringing the best out of the group. The producers common
to all of the projects know where the guys have been musically, and know where
they want to go. With that type of direction, it is no wonder Break
Through is a good CD.
The first song on the CD is You Can't Make It To Heaven.
Terry Varnado provides lead vocals on this song. He's Working It
Out is a ballad that is a great follow up to "Another Blessing."
This song also confirms that Terry is very good at singing ballads.
The tempo picks up with I Know (Somebody Touched Me). Charles
Clay and Terry share lead duties on this song. The background harmony in
this song is one of the best on this project. The next two songs are The
Word Of God and "Here Comes Your Breakthrough."
Both are lead by Terry Varnado.
Jesus Is Coming is probably the best song on the CD. The
message is simple, yet very powerful, get your life together and live right
because Jesus Is Coming. Terry and Charles also share lead duties
on My Jesus Showed Up.
The guys have given When I Rise an arrangement that is upbeat.
This will probably not be considered a drive song, but it should become a
favorite with Radio Angels. "Change In My Heart" has a
contemporary flavor. Without the instrumentation, you would probably
attribute this song to
Take Six.
Reginald McGhee joins Terry in sharing lead duties on Everything I Need.
This is another song that could be considered more contemporary than
traditional. Charles Clay close out the CD with I Worship You
and At The Cross/Build A Fence Around Me.
One of the strength to this group is that the guys have been singing together
for many years. In addition, they have several lead singers. This
showcases their ability to handle contemporary songs as easily as they do
traditional.
This is a great project and should be in your collection. We give
True Believers
