For this the month of July we take a
look at probably one of the most exciting groups on the road today. That
group is none other than the
Keith “Wonderboy” Johnson & The Spiritual Voices.
Their new release is titled Stronger Than Ever. This new CD is
destined to keep Keith and the guys active among their diehard fans on the
gospel quartet circuit.
This project appears to confirm
Keith and The Spiritual Voices
return to Worldwide Music (now Gospel Truth). You will remember that
The Spiritual Voices
were launched onto the national stage with back to back awesome projects on the
Worldwide Music label. This new project does not provide the listener with
the ‘awed-ness’ associated with the earlier projects, but it is still a good
offering.
The new CD opens with the mid-tempo "Come On," which was written
by Castro Coleman. The voices are so full on this song, that at times it
sounds like you are listening to a chorus in the background. The
production on this song is second to none. The second track, "Cry No
More" is a ballad written by Roderick Forte. "Did You Come
To Praise Him" was co-written by Bo-peep of
Revive.
It will remind you of several songs from the project Send A Revival.
Another song that was written by Bo-peep is "Too Good." With
this song, you will think you are listening to
Revive
and not The Spiritual
Voices.
The ballad "Trust In God" conveys a very heartfelt message.
The words reflect the condition of the world today and give the assurance that
we must "Trust In God." This is followed by "Time To
Get Close To Jesus." Thereafter, Jimmy Hicks lends his powerful
voice to "God’s Got It." Keith and Hicks share lead duties
throughout this song. It is not the longest song on the project, but it is
one of the best. This one will surely work its way into
The Spiritual Voices’
concert. The treat would be to have
The Spiritual Voices
and Jimmy Hicks & The
Voices Of Integrity on
the same program. If you have ever been in the house when
Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s
and The Williams Brothers
are on the same program, you know "Cooling Waters" will be sung as
recorded. Well, the same will probably happen with "God’s Got It"
whenever The Spiritual
Voices and
The Voices of Integrity
are on the same program - WOW!
In case you are wondering whether
Spanky Williams
is on this project, rest assured his influence can be felt on several songs.
He wrote and produced "He Kept On Blessings Me." He also
wrote "I’ll Praise His Name" and co-authored "Trust In God."
It should be noted that Demetrius Ledbetter is credited with writing the song "It’
Won’t Work." He also penned one of the Christmas Bonus Track, "Silent
Night." The other Bonus Track is a remix of “12 Days of
Christmas.” The other songs on this project are the two-part “I’ll
Go,” “Please God,” and “Grateful.”
While there are some good songs on this project, many may not make it to the
airways. This is one of those projects that, as a fan of the artist, you will
play it over and over. At the same time, don’t be disappointed if you cannot
find the songs being played by your favorite Radio Angel.
In 2005, Keith released
Keith Wonderboy Johnson Presents The Spiritual Voices and Friends’
Unity. With numerous artists contributing to this 2009
release, it could very well have been titled
Keith Wonderboy Johnson Presents
The Spiritual Voices and Friends II.
The project should be available everywhere
so. If you have not purchased this project, head to your local record store, or
click on
Stronger Than Ever to purchase it online. We give Keith Wonderboy Johnson and The Spiritual Voices’
Stronger Than Ever an 8.5
out of 10. Click on the title to hear “Too
Good."
