Worthy Is He is the
title of The Alabama
Spirituals’ most recent
CD. It contains one of the best praise and worship songs recorded by a
gospel quartet group in sometime.
“The Alabama Spirituals
have been singing God's praises for over 25 years. God gave these men a
vision and it soon became a Reality. For a few years the group was named
The Five Gospel Singers of
Alabama. They
changed their name and the blessing started rolling!"
The Alabama Spirituals
moved on to win the Traditional Gospel Group Award from the American Gospel
Music Awards in 2003. In 2007 they received a Dove Awards nomination for
Traditional Group Album of the Year.
Previous CDs by this group included Satan is On My Track and
Church Hymns. Their arrangements to standard hymns like "Peace
In The Valley," "I’ll Fly Away" and "Amazing Grace"
remain favorites years after the release of Church Hymns.
This group members are Rev. Dr. Eddie L. Hunter, Pastor Shawn M. Jones, Sr.,
Rev. Joe Hunter, Deacon Stan Hunter and Deacon Qunnion Burns. Notice that
the members are ministers or deacons. The group’s tie to the Church is
obvious. It is probably because of their involvement in their respective
churches that all of their recordings really minister to the listeners. The
ministers of the group share lead duties through all of the group’s recordings.
The new CD begins with "Lord Don't Leave Me." The song was
written by Rev. Hunter. Rev. Jones joins him in singing lead. The
song is an acknowledgement that we cannot make it alone. This ballad is a
prayer to our Lord and Savior to don’t leave us alone. It is easy to
envision Praise and Worship leaders all over the country incorporating this
song into their services.
The next song is "It Aint No Use." Rev. Jones sings lead.
Listen closely to how the group takes a song that has been recorded by many and
gives it a fresh sound. This is followed by the title track, "Worthy
Is He." The song was written by Rev. Hunter. Rev. Jones
handles the lead duties. The words to this song are powerful. Worthy
Is He of our praise. Worthy is thy name. WOW. This is a praise song that is
sure to be sung by many groups and choirs across the country.
"Satan Is On My Track" was written by Rev. Hunter. He also
sings lead. This song was a ballad from the CD sharing the same title as
the song. The arrangement on the new CD has more instrumentation.
Next is "I Cannot Be Idle." It was written by Deacon
Hunter. Rev. Jones is masterful on the lead. This is one of those
songs that my never receive airplay. And, yet it is one that will be popular
with owners of the CD. You will find yourself playing this song over and
over.
"What's Going On" does sound like a rhythm and blues song.
The title will draw you to this song. The song is a unique twist to the one
from the 70s that had everyone saying – What’s Going On. Rev.
Hunter is the writer and sings lead. Also, there is some similarity (at
least in the theme to the song) to “I Don’t Know What The World Is Coming
To” by The
Fantastic Violinaires.
"God Will Take Care Of You" will have you thinking of "I’ve
Got One Thing (You Can’t Take Away)" by
The Mighty Clouds of Joy.
This is another song written by Rev. Hunter. He also sings lead.
Rev. Hunter delivers a heartfelt testimony about an accident the group was in
while traveling form North Carolina. After listening to this song, you will
understand why the group titled this CD Worthy is He.
The final track on the CD is the upbeat "Lift Him Up." Rev.
Hunter encourages all through this song to continue lifting the name of our Lord
and Savior in praise. What a fitting song to close a CD titled
Worthy Is He.
This CD is certainly worthy of your
attention. You will want to add this CD to your collection. In
fact, you may want to contact the group and acquire their earlier recordings as
well as the new CD.
This release from
The Alabama Spirituals is an outstanding gospel quartet
