This month we visit Washington, DC
and take a look at The
Heavenly Sons most
recent release, Dedicated. This independently released
project is worthy of your attention. These guys are a hidden treasure.
Their style has been described as soulful and unique. And, you get to
experience the uniqueness and the soulfulness of their sound with
Dedication. If their live performance is anything like the CD,
they are destined to be in great demand all over the country, not just the east
coast.
The Heavenly Sons
are no stranger to the gospel music industry. Dedicated is
their third project. The others are Troubles Dont Last Always
and Second Chance.
The group began under the leadership of the late Raymond Monk, Sr. Many
may remember Brother Monk from his days with
The Five Spiritual Echos.
The members of Heavenly
Sons are Overseer Vance
G. Oldes, Raymond Monk, Eric Graham, Elder Shelton Gordon, and Darius Wheeler.
Also appearing on the new project are Jerome Monk, Claude Austin, Jr. and
Gilbert Walker, Jr.
Dedicated is a live recording. So, from the exuberant
introduction from the emcee to the final song you feel that you are actually
sitting at the concert.
Immediately after the introduction,
the Sons
move into Do You Love Him. The guys show their smooth
side with Lord Lay Your Hands On Me. This is followed by
In The Way. The song delivers a reminder that often we
are in the way of God blessing us. This is not the longest song on the
project, but it will probably be one of the favorites of Radio Angels.
The ballad Miracle In Me showcases strong background harmony.
The tempo picks up with the instrumental High Praise. The
praise and worship song that will probably become a favorite of choirs is Surrender.
What a powerful song inviting the presence of the Holy Spirit.
After the second introduction, the group delivers the mid-tempo Its A
Blessing. This is followed by Everything.
If there is a song of testimony on this project, it is See It Again.
The message is one that is sure to cause you to pause and reflect on life.
After the testimony it was time for some toe tapping, hand clapping, foot
stomping rejoicing. And the guys deliver with We Need You.
They closed the concert with "Second Chance." It may not
have been their intention, but this song serves as a great alter call to a
fantastic concert.
The live recording took place at St. Stephens Baptist Church, Temple Hills,
Maryland. Those attending the concert were an integral part of the recording.
You can actually hear their interaction with the group.
This CD is certainly worthy of your
attention. We suggest you contact the group and acquire Dedicated and their earlier recordings.
This release from
Heavenly Sons is an outstanding gospel quartet
project.
