This month we venture to the state
of Florida to take a look at the new CD by
NuTestament.
This group has been laboring in the gospel music field for many years. In
2005, they recorded the CD Time Ain't Long. Now they are
back with Workin 4 Jesus.
A little about the group, from information provided, “it all began in 1995 when
the young Nu TestAment was called to spread their God-given talents with
. . .
The Supreme Stars.
Nu TestAment would perform popular music with
The Supreme Stars
at local churches and related events. As they matured with
The Supreme Stars,
they began to explore the gospel field and would later start to write and
arrange more and more of their own music.” So it is no surprise that the
members are now seasoned recording artists. They are extremely talented.
The members are songwriters, musicians and exceptional vocalists.
The current members of the group are Pastor Aloysious D. Denard, Corinthian
Brown, Chad Farmer, Michael Wyche, Alton Solomon, Wallace Nelson, Janiece
Henry, Travese White, Chris Williams, and Johnny Doe.
And, what about the group's name?
Well, from information provided by the group, “Nutestament
derives from the acronym “NU” compiled of a variation of traditional text
representing the Alexandrian, Egyptian, and Greek descriptions of the New
Testament text. The word “testament” is testari in its Latin form meaning to be
a witness, or a call to witness with an expression of conviction. In the late
Latin form the word testamentum means covenant with God. In putting both
together you experience the name Nutestament; a variety of God’s covenant
people called to witness through song.”
And, with the CD Workin' 4 Jesus, they certainly witness to you
through song. The CD beings with the title song, Workin' 4 Jesus.”
The upbeat tempo is sure to get you in the mood for a great song service
delivered throughout the CD. "Time Ain't Long" s a song
that will certainly have you reflecting on life. The delivery of this
song has a sermonette feel to it. The warning given by this song is a
message that everyone needs to hear over and over. By the way, this song
was also on the group's 2005 CD titled Time Ain't Long.
"I'm Yours" borrows from a secular song some may remember as
Signed, Sealed and Delivered. In this instance ones relationship with God
is the ultimate goal of this delivery. This is followed by the ballad, "Blessing."
"All N All" gets your toe tapping and hand clapping. This
is another song that was on the group's 2005 CD. On that CD it was "All
& All" and had less instrumentation. The group seems to really be
enjoying themselves with this song. Although the new version has more
instrumentation, it does not dominate. The singers are not overshadowed by the
musicians. This one probably is a part of any live performance by
NuTestament.
"God Is" and "So Glad" are the next two (2) songs.
The beginning of "So Glad" will remind many of The Evereadys'
Separation Line. It is the third song that was also on the 2005 CD.
This is followed by "One of A Kind Love."
"Lord U Been Good" that will (or should) get a lot of airplay.
It is a very traditional gospel song.
NuTestament's
arrangement of this song is one of the best. They have brought this
staple from years past into the 21st century. This is one of those songs
that you will play over and over.
"Sho' Do Need Him" is then followed by "Gloryland."
Any song that has the title GLORYLAND is certainly worth taking special note
thereof. This song brings to the forefront the desired destination after this
life is over, and what one has to look forward to “over there in Gloryland.”
Listen closely to the lyrics. After describing "Gloryland," the
group encourages you to take a walk with them. The message is direct and
to the point, come "Walk Wit' Me" to Gloryland.
Just as this CD began on a high
note, it ends on one. "Walk Wit' Me" has all the trappings of a
great gospel quartet song. There is the strong lead singer, good background
harmony, outstanding arrangement, and a powerful message. In other words it is
a good drive song, that will get you out of your seat, on your feet and have
you praising our Lord and Savior along with the group.
Overall, this is a good CD.
NuTestament
delivers a solid performance on every song. Look for this group to become
a fixture at gospel concerts around the country. You certainly want to
consider adding this CD to your
collection.
We give NuTestament'
Working 4 Jesus an 8.5 out of 10.
