This month we take a look at the new
offering from a group out of Marianna, Arkansas -
The Eternal Light Singers.
What is known today as the “The Eternal Light Singers” originally formed in 1982,
under the name of “On Fire For God Ensemble” in Marianna, Arkansas. Founding
member were Rev. Ronald Broussard, the vanguard pastor of Mt. Calvary
Missionary Baptist Church along with the illustrious Rev. Cecil Coleman of New
Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, both located in Marianna. Rev. Cedric Coleman
is the principle-centered pastor of Spring Grove Missionary Baptist Church
located in Haynes, AR.
In addition to the founders, the group is also comprised of many talented
musicians who ensure the impeccable and spiritual sound of the group.
The Eternal Light Singers
are indeed one the nation’s most prolific and spirited
gospel groups, with an awe-inspiring ability to sing traditional
quartet and contemporary gospel music.
This group is no stranger to gospel music. They released their first project
Come To Jesus in 1988. In 1992, they released the very popular project Vision.
In 2000, we saw the release of their CD titled Live in Memphis. Then, in 2002,
they delivered the chart topping CD New Thang.
In 2009, the guys joined Ecko Records in Memphis, TN. Their first release on
Ecko Records was the Simply Outstanding project. Now they are back with another
outstanding CD titled Empower. For the new CD, the guys invited some of the best
vocalists in the industry to be a part of the project. Therefore, on the new CD
there are guest appearances by George Dean (if
The Gospel Four), Lisa Knowles
(of
The Brown Singers), and Pastor Roney Strong (of
The Strong Family Singers).
The new project begins with "Power Lord." The message of this song is simply a reminder to
seek the Power of Lord and Savior no matter your situation. This drive song is
sure to be popular at concerts. It should also get the attention of Radio Angels
around the country. What a great song to begin a CD titled Empower.
Lisa Knowles join Rev. Broussard on "Heaven." Together, they deliver a duet that
allows each singer to showcase their extraordinary vocal talents. And, in doing
so, they masterfully describe that beautiful place call "Heaven."
"Never Turn Back" and "Striving" take you back to the time when the words to the
song were most important than the music. Not much instrumentation on these songs. And, the
listeners benefit from the absence of the synthesizers and other canned
instrumentation. The lead singer and the background singers work together to
deliver two great songs. The songs will also remind the listeners of groups like
The Pilgrim Travelers,
The Soul Stirrers,
The Dixie Hummingbirds
and
The
Harmonizing Four. What an awesome reminder in
these songs. They are two of the best songs
on the project. And, this project is full of great songs.
The ballad "It Took Jesus" is a song of thanks and recognition of all that the
Lord has done in everyone's life. Many of the songs of this project deliver
powerful messages. And, that is certainly true of "It Took Jesus." It is sure to penetrate
your heart and really make you think.
George Dean joins the group on "Storm After Storm." Brother Dean is not only an
accomplished songwriter, but he’s also a great balladeer that knows how to tell
a story in song. This one is vintage
Gospel Four.
"Rescue Me" and "I Been Thinking" are songs with messages that will challenge you to
personally reflect on all that our Lord and Savior has done in your life. They will
probably not be considered drive songs, but they are definitely upbeat.
Pastor Roney Strong joins the guys on "Your Deliverance." Pastor Strong
is a great singer that also knows how to deliver a ballad. The testimony of the
son with Multiple Sclerosis makes this a ‘must hear’ song. You will immediately
recognize that whatever you are going through is minor to what others may be
experiencing. More importantly you will appreciate the message of the song to –
Wait On The Lord!
The project closes with I’m Determined. Another song with a great message – I am
determined to walk with Jesus all the way.
One of the first things you will notice when you put this CD in the player is
the energy that the group brings to the project. Secondly, you will notice that
the group has stayed true to their roots – Traditional Gospel Quartet Music. And
probably most importantly, you will realize that this project (each and every
song) really ministers
to you.
If you are looking for a quartet gospel project that delivers a great message
for today with each song, this is the one.
Overall this is an outstanding project by
The Eternal Light Singers. You should be able to find
this CD in your local record store and online. We give
The Eternal Light Singers’
Empower a 9.5 out of 10. Click
