We begin 2011 with a review of a
project that is a celebration of the longevity of one of the most exciting
groups in quartet gospel,
The Williams Brothers.
For those that have followed the career of
The Brothers,
it is somewhat of a surprise to realize that they have been singing the Good
News for fifty (50) years. It seems that it was not to long ago that they
burst onto the gospel scene as
The Sensational Williams Brothers.
At that time, there were five members of the group Doug Williams, Melvin
Williams, Leonard Williams, the late Frank Williams, and Henry Green. Their
first recording was actually the B side of an album on the SongBird Label that
featured The Jackson
Southernaires &
The Williams Sensational Brothers.
It was titled He's My Brother. They recorded their first
full album in 1974, also with the SongBird Label, titled Holding On.
Decades later and Doug, Melvin and Green are still delivering great gospel
music.
There are eighteen (18) tracks on the 50th Celebration project. They are All
These Years (It Ain't Over), Move In Me, There
to Hold Me, You, Use Me, Down
Memory Lane, Never Let Go of Your Hand, If I
Don't Wake Up, Feel Like Pressing On, Without
You I Can't Win, Help Us Jesus, Waiting on Time,
Today, Still Holding On, Right Where You
Are, He's Alright, He Will Fulfill, and
God Bless the USA.
As you can see from the list of songs, there is something on this project for
everyone. The Brothers
have pulled together some of their best recordings from the past. However,
don't consider this just another 'best of' project. For, along with taking
you down memory lane, The
Brothers also share some
of their most recent recordings with the listeners.
The Brothers
have a way of satisfying their longtime fans, and at the same time, incorporate
the new style of music that is sure to garner them new fans. And, that is really
what is so special about this project. Older fans will appreciate songs like Never
Let Go Of Your Hand and Move In Me. While, those
recently introduced to The
Brothers will enjoy Still
Holding On and He Will Fulfill. There is even a patriot
song on the project - God Bless The USA.
Also, The Brothers
don't mind sharing the limelight with others.
Time Rodgers,
Lisa Knowles
&
Stan Jones
are featured on the song Use Me. While,
Paige Williams
is featured on He Will Fulfill.
If there is one phrase to sum up this project it would be "good ole fashion
gospel quartet singing." What a fitting way to celebrate 50 years of ministry in
song.
If there is one drawback to the project, it is the inconsistency in the
recording level and the overall projection. It just may have been the copy of
the CD we received, but there were some noted recordings glitches. The project
was just not as clear as others produced and deliver to the marketplace by
The Brothers.
However, this should not hinder anyone from getting a copy of the project. It
still deserves to be a part of your collection.
We give The Williams
Brothers'
Celebrating 50 Years an 8.5 out of 10. To order this project click Celebrating
50 Years. Click on the title to hear Move
In Me.
