2000: Johnnie Taylor of the Highway QC's & Soul Stirrers dies in Dallas, TX.

The Legendary Highway QC's were formed in Chicago's South Side in 1945 by Charles Copeland-one of the group's original members was a teen-ager named Sam Cooke. Most of the group members attended Highway Baptist Church; another well-known institiution in the neighborhood was Q.C. High School, hence the group's somewhat unusual name.
