Roger Donald McKinney, 68, passed away
surrounded by his family, went to be with his Lord to continue singing
praises on August 18, 2017, at North MS Medical Center in Tupelo.
He was born January 30, 1949, to the late
Cotis McKinney and Hannah L Standifer Jenkins.
He was a member of McGlown Chapel C.M.E.
Church of Amory, he attended school in Fulton. He was formerly employed
at Atlas Body Work of Wren, for more than fifteen (15) years until his
health failed. He attended and completed his degree in auto mechanic and
painting body works.
He song many years with the Spiritual QC's of
Tupelo and the All Stars Group of Tupelo. He truly believed that he was
called by God to sing and serve the Lord with integrity and a positive
attitude, to bring glory to the Lord.
Roger loved his church, where he was very
active in Bible School Classes and Prayer Meetings. In his spare time he
enjoyed fishing. He loved his church family and his own family.
A Celebration of his Life Service will be
Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Rose of Sharon Church of
God in Christ in Amory, MS, with the Rev. Dr. George Kendrick
officiating. Burial will follow in the New Chapel Family Cemetery.
Darden and Sons Funeral is in charge of the final arrangements.
He leaves to cherish his memories the love of
his life, his children: two sons, Roderick Olando McKinney of Tupelo and
Basil Twyner of Oklahoma City, OK; two daughters, Lashanna Yvette
McKinney of Columbia, MS and Aundra Meltia Kohleim of Belden, MS; five
brothers: Ezell (Glenda) McKinney of Landover, MO, Zachary McKinney of
Amory, Curtis (Jackie) McKinney of Smithville, Dexter (Tracey) McKinney
of Aurora, CO, and Dudley McKinney of Amory; one sister, Merilee Johnson
of Amory; a special friend, Patricia Johnson of St. Anne, IL; a special
cousin, Levell McKinney; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
his oldest sister, Altomease McKinney.
Visitation will be today at McGlown Chapel
from 3 to 6:00 p.m. and family hour from 6 to 7:00 p.m. The body will be
in repose on Saturday, one hour prior to service time.
