November was a very busy month for the gospel quartet music genre. Yes, there were many concerts. Several great projects made it to the marketplace. And retail sale of gospel quartet music seems to be
strong. The most significant aspect of November was the number of persons, that we know of, who answered the call and entered eternal rest. Those being Mother Ruby Sommerville Dixon, Melvin Reed, Louise “Candy” Davis, Robert Turner, and Wilson "Lit" Waters, Jr. As we say
farewell to these trailblazers, let us continue to draw strength from what is said to us in 1 Thessalonians 4 -
13But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

Also, according to the press release, the group now consists of 11 members. Wow, what a treat it must be to see Minister Darrell McFadden in concert with a full compliment of background singers and musicians.

As the last quartet of the year begins, we can say, without hesitation, that the first 9 months of 2005 have been very exciting for quarteters. Many new and great projects have been released by groups at all level in the gospel quartet music genre.
Yet, it has been 9 months of wars, continued rumors of wars, and devastation that we have not witnessed in recent times on the shores of the United States. And we still hear about the “family” being in trouble, crime is on the rise in our communities, and according to at least one publication some churches have now become business, unfortunately
that business no longer seems to be about saving souls.
All of this presents a great opportunity for quartet groups to actually minister to people. And it seems that you are steeping up to the plate. With recent projects from The Mighty Aires,
Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s, The Memphis Harmonizers, Brotherly Luv, Evelyn Turrentine-Agee,
The Chosen Sons of Lusby Maryland, The Russells, The Anointed Jackson Sisters, The Sensational Nightingales, and
Keith Wonderboy Johnson Presents The Spiritual Voices and Friends, just to name a few, the music is out there to not only lift souls, but more importantly lead souls to our Lord and Savior. It is our prayer that as quarteters minister in song, you will not forget that you are singing, in many
cases, to hurting people, and that you continue to encourage them with your songs, and, more importantly, that you are actually leading souls to our Lord and Savior. Keep spreading the Good News and continue to “sing your song.”

We would agree with Minister Stewart’s assessment that this is “a song of encouragement for ALL of us, but especially for those who are trying to find their way through a challenging time of their lives as
the hurricane victims.” We encourage you to send a contribution to AGQC and obtain your personal copy of this song and the powerful prayer that is also on the CD.

If you are interested in great gospel quartet music, there are 2 projects that we recommend to you. One is the recently released The Swan Silvertones 1946 – 1951. For the quartet enthusiast, this project is a must for your
collection. The re-mastering on this 2-CD set is the best that we have heard in recent times. And just to be able to hear the Swans during their early days is just so inspiring. The quartet historian the Liner Notes contain golden nuggets that you will probably not be able to find any other place. Rev. Claude Jeters and Linwood Heath
contributed to the liner notes. The history lesson alone is worth the cost of this project, which, by the way, contains 45 songs. To purchase a copy click – The Swan Silvertones 1946-1951.
The other is the “East Coast” Pilgrimaires of Philadelphia, PA. We are not certain of the release date of their project, but it is noted as being copyrighted in 2000/2003. It
is surprising that more is not being heard about or from this group. The project is deserving of rave reviews. This is a great group. The group has a style of their own, but they will quickly remind you of groups like The Jubes,
Slim & The Supreme Angels, The Dixie Hummingbirds and the early days of The Mighty Clouds of Joy. If you are able to find this project, don’t be surprise if you play it over
and over. There is no contact information of the copy of the CD that we have, so we cannot tell you how to obtain a copy. Maybe one of the group members will post their contact information on the message board. One of the songs from this project will be on the October 2005 Radio Playlist.

There is a group in Delaware that got its name from a cartoon character. The group is none other than The Mighty Aires. The group was originally called The
Tri-State Gospel Aires. As the story goes, after personnel changes, the group was trying to come up with a new name when young Charles (Chuck) Finney, who was watching his favorite cartoon, suggested The Mighty Aires. The cartoon he was watching was
Mighty Mouse – thus “Mighty” from the cartoon character, and “Aires” from the original name of the group.
Although the name may have come from a character that was a figment of someone’s imagination, this group is ‘for real.’ They have just released their fourth project which is titled “Breakthrough.” This is a great live recording. There
is also a video being released.

The devastation of Hurricane Katrina should cause all of us to pause, pray and thank God each day for His Grace and Mercy. For, any state could have suffered the devastation that has befallen Mississippi, Alabama and Louisiana. So, if you or your
state were spared, thank God, pray for those that have been affected, and open your pocketbooks and give (until it hurts) to reputable charitable organizations.
The hurricane presents an opportunity for quarteters to step up to the plate and minister in song to our brothers and sisters. You know how much this music we call gospel quartet lifts you when you are down. We believe many hearts could be touch,
souls saved and despair eased (if not erased) with gospel quartet music. We look forward to the praise reports from the quarteters that will go into the shelters and minister in song.

One of the major news items in the gospel music industry within the past twenty (20) days is the acquisition of AIR Gospel by MALACO. In a press release, that was actually dated June 30, 2005, it was announced that MALACO had acquired the
Atlanta International Records (AIR Gospel) label. Therefore, Dottie Peoples, The Red Budd Community Choir, Maurette Clark Brown, Rev. F. C. Barnes, Luther Barnes & The Sunset Jubilaires and Timothy Wright are now in the MALACO camp. It will be interesting to see what impact this acquisition
will have on the gospel quartet genre. In addition, with AIR becoming a part of MALACO, there is one less major traditional gospel quartet label.
Hopefully, the independent labels will see this as another opportunity for them to become major players in the gospel music industry. With better products and networking, independent artists and labels should be able to make inroads and continue
to play a major role in the release of good gospel quartet music.

Two thousand five is one-half of the way over, or has six months to go – depending on your view of the year. Whichever way you decide to look at it, the first six (6) months of 2005 has been great for gospel quartet music. We have had the
release of great projects from independent labels, and in some cases independent artists without a label. Unfortunately, we could not review them all. However, if you have not added independent projects by Calvin Brownlee & The New Gospel Aires,
Alecia Garrick, The Barkleys & Company, The Rising Stars, Karen Washington & The New Singing Stars, Brothers In Christ, Leonard Sanders, the compilation by Hi-Lites Music Ministries and many others we could name to your collection, you are really missing out on some great gospel quartet music. Many of these projects will never make it on the shelves of your local music store. You may not be
able to find some of them on the internet. However, we would encourage you to network with others in this genre to find these quality projects.
It seems that during the first six (6) months of 2005, some of the major labels have tried to rebound and make an impact on this genre. The Sensational Nightingales' new project “Let Us Encourage You” and The Williams Brothers’ “Greatest Hits Plus”
are great examples of projects that have had a positive impact. Again, we encourage you to add these projects to your collection.
As much as gospel quartet fans “love” this genre, unfortunately, it has not shown up in the sale of new projects. Many factors go into a decision to acquire a particular project – is it from my favorite group? Does it contain
any new material? How expensive is it? Have I heard of the group before? Whether the group is getting any airplay? No matter what factor you use to decide whether to purchase a project, we encourage you to expand your collection by adding a project from a group with whom you might not be familiar. Often, you will find many golden nuggets in
these projects. Along with word of month recommendation, checkout web sites like We Care Promotions, SC Gospel Quartets, Black Gospel Quartets,
Gospel Swap, Joglen Gospel Online, any other websites that can be found at our Quartet Links page. You often find recommendations regarding projects that may never make it into the general marketplace.

There is a relatively new magazine that is sure to bring a different prospective and new energy to the gospel music genre.
Gospel Synergy Magazine is published by Andráe L. Carter. What makes this magazine unique is
that it not only covers gospel music, but it tackles many of the issues of the day confronting the African American community that others have ignored. For instance in the March/April edition, there is a very interesting article on the African American Vietnam Vets suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. This article is a must read for
anyone interested in how the Vietnam War continues to adversely affect the African American community.
In addition, Mr. Carter also has introduced Gospel Swap.
Gospel Swap is an online service that brings the purchase of gospel music from independent artists to the 21st century. Gospel Swap allows you to
purchase (download) a single song for a very reasonable price. We encourage you to visit this site. In addition, for all independent gospel quartet artists with projects, you may want to consider using the services of Gospel Swap as another way to get your product into the marketplace.

Therefore, Minister Teddy Cross was not with the group. However, Minister Cross was in Columbia for a three (3) nondenominational church convention, where he performed each evening.

Several individuals have inquired about the name of the ladies on the front page of Gloryland Gospel’s website. If no one discloses who they are before we post the May Radio Broadcast, we will disclose their names and the name of their group at that
time.
*****
Several new projects are slated to be released this month. There are major concerts scheduled all across the country. There will be special Mother’s Day gospel quartet programs in Chicago, Wilmington, Delaware, Columbia, and in many other places. So this should be another exciting month
for Gospel Quartet Music.

May is here and from the staff of Gloryland Gospel we say HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all of the beautiful mothers that visit our website. In recognition of Mother’s Day, we have dedicated the month of May to female quartet groups. We began with a review
of The Bell Singers of Memphis, Tennessee new CD – God Is Wonderful. We also reviewed Evelyn Turrentine Agee’s new CD – Go Through. We will be posting, with in a day or two, a Radio Broadcast featuring
all female groups. When the broadcast is posted, click on the name of each group and you will find information about each of the groups that submitted material about themselves to us.

As many gospel quartet fans may know, Henry Green of The Williams Brothers is ill. Teddy Cross (formerly of Willie
Neal Johnson & The New Gospel Keynotes) has been call upon by the Brothers to fill in while Green is taking time to recuperate. Minister Cross was with the Brothers when they appeared in High Point, North
Carolina on Saturday, April 23, 2005, and Saluda, South Carolina on Sunday, April 24, 2005. Minister Cross recently released his solo project "Family Healing, Volume I." Additionally, Minister Cross is scheduled to participate
in the taping of an upcoming broadcast of the “Singsation” show in Chicago, Illinois.

We had the pleasure of listening to an advance copy of Michael Carter & 2nd Generation's new CD. It is titled “God Bless America” and it is good. The CD is scheduled to be released on May 18,
2005. To pre-order this CD just visit the website www.sensationalentertainment.com.
*****
The Bell Singers of Memphis, Tennessee have released their seventh recording. The CD is titled “God Is Wonderful.” These ladies really minister with this project. Watch for our special feature on The
Bell Singers during the month of May as we recognize female gospel quartet groups. To obtain a copy of their new CD contact the group at (901) 384-6979.

The Mighty Clouds of Joy new product arrived right on time – April 12, 2005. It is a winner. If you have not
purchased your copy, you are missing out on some good old fashion gospel quartet music. No one records quite like the Clouds and they really have delivered a great project for their fans. Watch for our review of this new CD in May.
*****
April is here and all gospel quartet enthusiasts are awaiting the new releases from The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Evelyn Turrentine-Agee. In addition this is the month for Lee Williams and the Spiritual QC’s new live recording in Memphis. So, April should be a banner month for gospel quartet music. And The Blind Boys of Alabama's Atom Bomb is just that - a bomb. It is a project you really will enjoy.
*****
As March comes to a close, it has certainly been an exciting month for gospel quartet music. Concerts continued to occur every week across the country. The “major” artists have truly been living out of their suitcases this month. And the trend
is not intended to change as we move into April. There were several conferences and showcases during the month of March. Roy and Ester Wooten held one of the largest in Jackson, Mississippi. Many groups took advantage of the opportunity provided by Roy and Ester. It was a great weekend.
Several independent projects made it into the national limelight. Teddy Cross released his new project earlier than expected. The project is titled “Family Healing, Volume I."
It is beginning to make it into heavy radio airplay rotation across the country.
Rev. Andrew Cheairs and The Songbirds did a live recording on March 12, 2005, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Memphis, Tennessee. The project should be released before the end of the year.

Gloryland Gospel decided to give a theme to each of the monthly radio broadcast. The response has been overwhelming and very positive. We thank those that took the time to let us know how you felt about the radio broadcast having a theme
to it. For the month of April groups that were birth out of another group will be the theme. So, look for some interesting old and new recordings on next month’s radio broadcast.
For the month of May the theme will be female groups. May is the month we celebrate Mother’s Day. So it is fitting that we should acknowledge our female groups during this month. Therefore, all of the songs (old and new) on the radio broadcast
for May will be by female gospel quartet groups or singers. Should you be a part of a female gospel quartet group and want to have your project consider for inclusion in the May broadcast, send two (2) copies of the CD to us at the mailing address found on the Contact Gloryland page.
We recently received projects from two (2) “local” groups that mentioned in their liner notes that a member of the group was serving in Iraq or oversea fighting in the war. We would like to know if there is a member of your group (male or
female) that is serving in the military and is (or was) stationed in Iraq or somewhere overseas supporting the war. Should there be a sufficient number of responses to this request, we will showcase these groups during the month of June. The radio broadcast theme for June would be “gospel quartet singers serving in the Iraq war.” To have your
project consider for inclusion in the June broadcast, send two (2) copies of the CD to us at the mailing address found on the Contact Gloryland page. When you send the projects, please let us know the name of the group member that was (or is) serving in the war.

During the month of March several gospel quartet singers joined the heavenly choir. Those that left us were Bob Chatman of The Mighty Stars of Harmony and George Scott, one of the founding members of The Blind Boys of Alabama.
*****
Well, the month of March is upon us. Based on the number of “major” gospel quartet concerts scheduled for this month, it will be another outstanding month for gospel quartet music.

February brought several independent projects to the marketplace. Should the early trend continue, the independent labels and independent artists will dominate this year’s new releases.
*****
The Hi-Lite Juniors have an awesome new project titled “Songs From The Heart.” The Sons of Faith first CD, “Take It To Jesus,” is sure to make a lot of waves in the industry. Their version of “Morning Dove” is nothing less than phenomenon. Because of radio airplay, The Barkleys & Company
released their new CD earlier than expected. The demand for the CD, titled “None But The Righteous” has been overwhelming. The Gospel Angels of Mansfield, Ohio, new CD entitled “He's Real” will be released
at a concert on April 30, 2005. This CD should get a lot of airplay. This CD is another example of very good production work. The Alabama Boys' new CD is one of the best independent projects in the marketplace. The CD titled "No
Way I Can Lose" should be in heavy rotation on every gospel radio station.
Most know Justin Morris (of Justin Morris and Company) from his years with The Soul Stirrers. What may not be known is that after leaving The Soul Stirrers he has
continued to record great projects. His newest CD, “Pressing On” is finally getting the attention it deserves. One of the songs on this CD is simply titled “Christmas.” Look for this song to make it into heavy rotation during the Christmas season. Roscoe Robinson has a new independent project “Gospel Stroll” that is being nationally distributed. Karen Washington & The New Singing Stars’ CD “Jesus Is My Everything” is worthy of all of the
accolades it is about to receive. If this CD is not being played on the airways in your area, you owe it to yourself to call the station and ask for it to be played. You will not be disappointed.
If you want to “Feel A Praise,” pick up Walter Barnes, Jr. and Men of Ministry new CD “Appointed Time.” This is another
project that really deserve to be in heavy rotation on every gospel radio program. Maybe Walter and the guys will favor us with a video of this project. It is just that good. The Six Voices of Zion of Columbia, South Carolina, has a new
project titled “I’m Grateful.” This group has been singing for over forty years. They have released several CD’s. Each is better than the last. Curtis Young, formerly of The Five Singing Songs of North, assisted with the
production of this CD. This CD also has a Christmas song on it, “It Must Be Christmas,” that should also be in heavy rotation during the Christmas season.
And there is a young lady from South Georgia by the name of Candice Thomas that, at 15 years of age, has the vocals of Evelyn Turrentine-Agee,
Vickie Winnan and Dottie Peoples. This young lady is reflective of the fact that there are young people ready to take the banner and keep gospel quartet music alive. She is also a very good songwriter. Her newest project “A New Beginning" is good
All of the above mention projects have two things in common. They are on independent labels (and in some instances no label at all); and they are good projects. So, watch out for some good independent projects that are sure
to bring a new and improved dimension to gospel quartet music. In addition, we decided to feature several of these recordings, and other lesser know or recently released recordings, on the March 2005 Quartet Radio.

In the United States of America February is Black History month. In recognition of this set-aside month by the USA, we have compiled a special selection of song for the February Quartet Radio. Each of the selections was recorded over 20 years ago.
You will find recordings from the 20’s to the 80’s.
*****
The Williams Sisters’ Live and Direct From Europe Hittin’ It & Kickin’ is definitely a good project.
The copyright date on this project is 2002/2203. However, the project is just beginning to get the attention it deserves. Should you not be able to locate the project at your local record store, we suggest you contact the Sisters at (215) 880-9215 to purchase a copy.

January brought us several new gospel quartet projects and a lot of exciting concerts. We introduced you to many of the projects in earlier reporting. The long awaited project by Lil Blair and The Violinaires (Times Like These) is finally in the marketplace. They introduced the new CD at the American Gospel Quartet Convention (AGQC).
*****
Roscoe Robinson (formerly of The Blind Boys of Mississippi and Alabama) introduced his new solo project, “Gospel Stroll.” If you are a fan of either of the Blinds Boys,
you definitely want to pick up this CD. Paul Beasley and The Original Gospel Keynotes are working on a new project. They introduced a three (3) track sampler at the convention. The first song on the CD is quite interesting. In this song Paul is having a dream and is visited by the
Late Willie Neal Johnson. Quartet fans, when you hear this one you will certainly want to tell others about it. That song, I Really Miss You, is very powerful. The Mighty Clouds of Joy did a mini-concert at the convention. They sang mostly songs from their upcoming
“Live” project that was recorded in December 2004. Minister Jerry Bolton, of the Bolton Brothers, introduced his new project at the convention.
*****
Gloryland Gospel reviewed their first gospel quartet video during January. The video chosen for the first review was The Canton Spirituals, “New Life: Live In
Harvey, Illinois."

Now February is upon is and it is going to be another very active month for gospel quartet music. Minister Teddy Cross is preparing to release is solo project, “Family Healing, Volume I.”
Rev. Andrew Cheairs & The Songbirds continue to rehearse for their Live recording scheduled for March 12, 2005, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Memphis Tennessee. Evelyn Turrentine-Agee is putting the final touches on her
“Live” project that was recorded in December 2004. Bo-Peep is working diligently on the postproduction of his “Live” recording in January 2005. And, neither space nor time will permit us to list all of the local and regional groups that are slated to either record or release new
projects this month.
And there are many concerts scheduled for February. One of the biggest will be the annual concert held in Albany, Georgia. This year’s concert is scheduled for Sunday, February 13, 2005.

Almost two (2) years ago we reviewed The Alabama Boys’ "Singing A New Song" project. Well, the “Boys” are back with an outstanding project titled “No
Way I Can Lose.” This project is sure to be a hit. Several songs on this project should be climbing the charts very soon. Eric Sharper, along with The Alabama Boys, co-produced this project. The project should be on the streets by February 1, 2005. On that day, don’t walk but, run to your local gospel music outlet and pick up this
project. Should you not be able to find the CD at your local outlet, you can purchase your copy by clicking here. Either way, you will not be disappointed.

There are many groups that have quality projects and for whatever reason they have not gotten national attention. There are three (3) that we want to bring to your attention. The first is The Lighthouse Gospelettes of Athens, Georgia. This group has been together for many years. These ladies know how to harmonize. Their most recent project, “A Little Something Different” showcases the best in gospel quartet music. The second is Michael Carter and 2nd Generation. This group is on the Sensational Entertainment Records
label, Los Angels, California. They have a new project that should be released the early part of 2005. The project is entitled “God Bless America.” When you hear these guys you will
immediately asked yourself – ‘Why have I not heard of them before?” The third group is The Jones Family Singers of Bay City, Texas. As the name reflects, this is a family group. They will also be releasing a new project soon.
This group is well rooted in traditional gospel quartet music. They, as the other groups mentioned, have performed with many of the top singers and groups in the gospel music industry. We encourage you to get a copy of these groups' project. There are some great gospel quartet projects out there that has just not gotten the
attention they desire. With your help, we intend to change that.
