December 1, 2006
Well, the last month of the year is
here. It certainly has been a very active year for gospel quartet music. And,
there appears to be no slowing down in December. When we look at the
Quartet Central Message Board, we see
that gospel quartet concerts are scheduled all over the country throughout this
month. It all will culminate with the Gospel Jamboree on December 30,
2006, in Clarksdale, Mississippi.

Ronica and The Blazing
Stars are featured in the recent edition of
Juke Blues Magazine. Juke Blues is published in England. There is
also a great article about the 2006 South Carolina Gospel Quartets Awards
Banquet. Some of the groups mentioned in the article are
Voices of Praise,
The Inspirational Singers,
Women of Strength,
Nate & The Chosen Ones,
and The Zionaires.
You will want to have this magazine in your library.

members of the group Lee

Rev. Mark and The Gospel Stars
have a new project on the LowRush Music label. The CD is entitled God Is
Good All The Time. It is certainly a traditional gospel quartet project.
It does, however, have a distinct “Louisiana” feel to it. It is a CD that you
would want to have in your collection. The more you listen to the CD, the more
you will appreciate the message conveyed by each song.

November 1, 2006
Gospel Quartet Music has had 10
great months in 2006. There is no reason the remaining two months can not be
even more successful. Normally new projects are not released in November.
However, this November may buck that trend. We expect several new projects from
some of the minor labels. In addition, projects released in the past 30 to 60
days should begin to get the attention they deserve this month.
*****
November 1, 2006
According to fliers we have
received, there are many gospel quartet concerts scheduled for this month. Many
of the national artists indicate that their schedule is just as heavy for this
month as it has been during other months of the year. For instance, take a look
at Doc’s schedule -
http://www.docmckenzieandthehilites.com/appearances2006.html. So,
overall this should be a great month for Gospel Quartet Music.

Remember the name
Thomas Rhyant, Jr.
He is from North Carolina. He has the vocals to sound like the late Sam Cooke
and the late Johnny Jones of
The Swanee Quintet.
We understand that he did a tribute to Jones at
The Swanee’s
anniversary program on October 1, 2006. This guy can really sing. It would not
be surprising to find him as the second lead on one of the major gospel quartet
groups that regularly tour the country. He has recorded a CD titled
Remembering Sam Cooke. It is worth having in your collection. You can

We have received many inquires
asking whether
Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites
have a new CD. Well, the answer is yes. But, you may have to wait until next
year to hear the entire CD. It is scheduled to be released during the first
quartet of 2007. From the tracks we have heard, the CD will take
Doc and The Hi-Lites
to another level. This new project is different than anything ever recorded by
a gospel quartet group. In fact, some will say that there has never been any
gospel recording like the one coming from
Doc
and the guys. If there is someone on the planet that has not heard of
Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites,
that will not be the case after the release of their new project. The new CD

July is here. It just does not seem
that six (6) months of 2006 is in the history book. There have been a lot of
activities in gospel quartet land during the past six (6) months. We have been
introduced to new projects from both independent and major labels, in addition
to independent projects not on a label. There have been lots of gospel quartet
concerts. And, unfortunately, there have been many deaths in the gospel quartet
community.
But, it is reassuring to know that God is still in charge. And, know that will
allow us to move forward into the last six (6) months of 2006 and rejoice in all
of the good things that are sure to come our way.
July began, as June ended, with
Doc McKenzie
and others sponsoring a three day program. In addition, there are many gospel
quartet concerts scheduled, all across this country, for the July 4th weekend.
Several groups are slated to release new projects this month. Therefore, we
expect July to be another exciting month for Gospel Quartet music.

The street date for
SoulLink Live 3
is May 30, 2006. This is one project that you definitely
want to order in advance. The subtitle of the project is “Man In The Mirror.”
That title alone should tell you that you are in for something entirely
different with this project. We have heard the entire project and it is awesome
and unique. There are 14 songs on this project.
The project is unique because
of the selection of songs and who are singing them. For instance, "Man In The
Mirror" is sung by
The Williams Brothers, with
The Cantons,
The Christianaires,
Slim, and
Lee singing background. And yes, this is
Michael Jackson’s “Man in
The Mirror.”
The Cantons sing “I Can See Clearly Now.”
Slim and The Supreme
Angels sing “Blowin’ In The Wind.”
The Christianaires sing “Bridge Over
Troubled Water.”
Lee & The Spiritual QC’s
sing
Bill Withers’
"Lean On Me." And the gang come together to “jam’ with “Love
Train.” Some may question the “gospel” aspect to this project.
At the same time, even those that may not find the “gospel” music in the songs
should appreciate the fact that the guys recorded these songs and took each to
another level.

We have received numerous emails
from individuals regarding our spotlighting of independent artists and labels.
We thank you for taking the time to let us know how much you appreciate our
drawing attention to the independent labels and artists. The responses
have been so positive until we have decided to do it again during the month of
June. We will not repeat any recordings already spotlighted. However, if a
group that we have already listed has a newer project, we will certainly
consider including the newer project.
Should you desire to have your
independent label or independent recording in the spotlight, just send 2 copies

as possible during the month of June. Our mailing address is P. O. Box 25567,

March 30, 2006
We end our look at some of the
independent artists and labels by spotlighting the following.
Emmanuel Records.
Rev. Andrew Cheairs
is the owner of Emmanuel Records. His group,
Rev. Andrew Cheairs & The
Songbirds, has recorded
several very popular projects on this label. Their most recent recording is
Make Up Your Mind.
The Royal Travelers of Rockford,
Illinois, did a
recording in 2002 titled Servant Well Done. One of the tracts on
this CD is “In Your Care.” Not only is this an excellent song,
but it captures the outstanding talents of this group.
Women of Strength
is a relatively new group. Their self-titled freshman project was great. We
understand that they are working on a new project that should be released soon.
We came across a CD by the group
Rachel & The Joy Gospel
Singers that was very
hard to put down. The CD is titled "Jesus You Been Good To Me…”
DoRohn Records. DoRohn is the
label of the group The Emmanuels.
Their release on this label was “Meet The Emmanuels.” Check them
out at
www.dorohn.com.
LEO Records.
God’s Messengers
recorded What Do People Need
Today (Holy Ghost) for this label.
The group
Motivations
recorded Count On Me on the New Joy Records label.
MARS Records. One of the
groups that recorded for this label was The
Sensational Chosen Voices. The title of their
CD was You Can’t Hide. Another group from this label is
Larry Brown & The Mighty Gospel Inspirations.
Their CD is titled Count Your Blessings. Check them out at
www.marsgospel.com.
Rampart Street Music. This
label is based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Some of the artists on this label (and
the title of their CDs) are Beatrice Ward &
Angelic Voices (Hold On),
The Friendly Travelers
(Search My Heart), and The Golden
Wings Gospel Singers (What You’re Doing
Now). Check them out at
www.rampartstreetmusic.com.
Junior Boy Records. The star of
this label is The Hi-Lite
Juniors. Their CD titled
Lean On Jesus is outstanding.
Tycoon Records. This label is
based in Atlanta, Georgia. The Electrified
Woods Brothers recorded the CD Forgive Me
Lord for this label in 2005. Check them out at
www.dandjpromo.com.
An example of the fact that good
gospel quartet music never grows old is
The Inspirers’
recording Don’t Quit. This project was recorded in 1993. The
songs are just as meaningful today as they were when recorded. T M Records was
the label for this recording.
The Christian Young Men
recorded It’s Me Oh Lord (Standing In The Need Of Prayer) in
2005. Don’t be surprise when one of the major labels signs these guys. These
guys know how to “Send The Praise Up.”
The final group that we spotlight is
The Gospel Incredibles.
This group has been singing for over 25 years. In fact, we reviewed their 25th
anniversary recording in February 2005. You can read the review by
clicking on the link on our Quartet Video Reviews page. We understand that they are working on
a new project that should be release sometime this year. Check them out at
The Gospel Incredibles.

March 20, 2006
Continuing with our highlighting of
independent artists and labels we spotlight the following.
WOS Records – This label is owned by
Joe and Evelyn Turrentine-Agee.
Their most recent release is from the group
Joe Agee featuring GGOB (God’s Good
‘Ole Boys). The name of
the project is Glory, Glory Hallelujah!
CLHMusic, Inc. and Spoil Boy Records
are the home of Charles
Hilton & The St. Louis Consolators.
The Voices of Morning Star
is a group that has recorded one of the best renditions of the "23rd
Psalm." The 23rd Psalm project is about 4
years old. But, if you are able to find a copy of this project, you will be
left with the impression that it was just recently recorded.
The Disciples of Christ
did a CD titled Never Seen The Lord. Like many independent
projects, this one is not dated. But, that is okay, because the messages in
each song are just as powerful today as when they were recorded.
God’s Chosen Ones
hails from Birmingham, Alabama. Their label is GRO
Records. Check them out at
www.godchosenones.com.
Highland Records. We are not sure
that this label is still in business. However, it still deserves our
attention. The label was the home of
Marble City Singers.
Some may remember their CD – Me and Jesus.
Wisdom Records.
Arthur Goodjoin and The Powerful
Singing tornadoes

January was a great month for the gospel quartet music
genre. There were many concerts around the country. There continue to be
outstanding projects being released by many groups. At the same time, there is
much work to do to keep this genre vibrant.
Many radio stations are not playing (or playing very few)
gospel quartet songs. Although many new projects are being recorded, the masses
are not being informed about these projects. It is incumbent upon all of us
that are concern about this genre to make sure that new projects are introduced
to others. If you are a frequent visitor to
Gloryland Gospel
and the Message Board,
you are more likely to be aware of new projects. However, many of your friends,
associates, and family members may not be so informed. So, tell them about
Gloryland Gospel.
Tell them about the Message Board. Tell them about new gospel quartet
projects. In other words, do not hesitate to spread the good news to those that
you may come in contact with who may not be aware of the wealth of information
available about this genre.

As we celebrate
Black History Month let's share the accomplishment of those that have been
trailblazers in the gospel quartet music industry. That would include singers,
producers, songwriters, musicians and those that work behind the scene in this
industry. There are so many people that deserve recognition. Whenever you get
the opportunity this month start a conversation about the Black Pioneers of
Gospel Quartet Music, both living and deceased. Some that you may consider
discussing (and in some instances introducing to others) are
Archie Brownlee,
Madame Edna Gallmon Cooke, Frank Williams, Willie Neal Johnson, Robert Blair,
Little Shot, Margaret Allison, Claude Jeters, The Caravans, Louis Johnson, Tommy
Ellison, James Bullard, Roy Wooten, Nero Tindal, James “Big Red”
Anderson. As you can see, this list include individuals that have been called
home to be with our Lord and Savior; and many that are still with us. There is
so much good news to share with others about Black Gospel Quartet Music, so why
not do so as you celebrate Black History Month.

Happy New Year! As we begin 2006, we at
Gloryland Gospel
extend to you our heartfelt wish for a Happy and Joyous New Year. We thank the many visitors to this site for continuing to make Gloryland Gospel one of the most active website on the
Internet. We continue to be the most visited “gospel quartet” website on the Internet.
We also thank you for your continued efforts to raise the level of the discussion on the Message Board. Although, at times, some postings venture into the realm of rumors, hearsay, or he said she said, overall the discussion topics are moving to
more serious exchange of hope, encouragement and prayers for each other. We encourage you to be mindful that when you post something on the Message Board, you are in fact posting your comments to the World. It is important that the World know that members of the Messages Board are first and far most Christians and not just gossipers. Therefore,
consider posting your testimony instead of a rumor. Who knows, it just might be your testimony that encourages someone to seek the Kingdom of our Lord and Savior.

January is the month of the American Gospel Quartet Convention. For traditional gospel music lovers, this is the Convention. The focus of this Convention is only gospel quartet music. That, in and of itself, makes it unique. So, consider
supporting the Convention.
