FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Many of you may have already been
informed that Gospel Legend and The Undisputed Queen Of Gospel Music, Ms.
Albertina Walker has been called home to be with the Lord at approximately 4:30
am, Friday, Ocotber 8, 2010.
Albertina Walker, founder of The Caravans, arguably The Greatest Gospel Group Of
All Time and heralded as an unparalleled launching pad for gospel superstars:
Shirley Caesar, Inez Andrews, Bessie Griffin, Dorothy Norwood, Cassietta George,
and The King Of Gospel, James Cleveland were but just a few of the ensemble's
alumni who later went on to solo fame. In 1955, The Caravans were signed to
Savoy Records. By 1956, the Caravans were among the most popular acts on the
gospel music circuit due in part to their ethereal, amazing vocal interplay and
strong alternating leads.
The Caravans disbanded in the mid-'70s, though there were occasional reunion
tours. The '70s saw Ms. Albertina Walker re-signed with Savoy Records releasing
such LPs as “Please Be Patient With Me" (her first Grammy-nominated album), "I
Can Go to God In Prayer," "Spread the Word," "I Wont Last a Day Without You."
In 2005, Albertina Walker, the "Queen of Gospel Music," Dorothy Norwood, "The
World's Greatest Gospel Storyteller," Inez Andrews,"The High Priestess," Deloris
Washington, "The Sweet Songbird," and "The First Lady Of Gospel," Pastor Shirley
Caesar were reunited for an exclusive "live" performance and in-depth behind the
scenes interview in the taping of "Gospel Legends," Malaco's widely successful 3
CD & 3 DVD television package that united all of the Gospel pioneers of the last
80 years with current Gospel superstars, in which all 5 of the remaining
Caravans appeared on one of the covers.
In 2006, Albertina Walker was reunited once again with her royal court to record
the Grammy, Soul Train, Stellar and Dove nominated release "Paved The Way" for
Malaco Records with three of the four other anointed, living legends from The
Caravans. The CD was recorded at Chicago's West Point Baptist Church, which
brings things full circle ... at least for Albertina Walker. West Point Baptist
Church is Albertina Walker's home church, where she first sang in the children's
choir at the age of 4, with the support and instruction of giants of the genre
such as Thomas A. Dorsey, Mahalia Jackson and James Cleveland (who was a
childhood friend).
The Savoy Records / Malaco Music Group relationship with The Queen, Albertina
Walker has spanned over 55 years.
"When we started out, money was the last thing on our mind; we just wanted to
lift up the name of Jesus, we wanted to praise Him. We were Christian women and
men who wanted to praise the name of the Lord, to lift him up, not ourselves. I
knew this is what the Lord wanted me to do - to recruit singers: take them
across the country; let the world hear Gospel music; let the people enjoy Gospel
music; let people be saved through Gospel music. It took a long time but I
appreciate all of the good, nice things that the Lord has given me. The Lord is
my keeper, He is my all in all and whatever good that happens to me - God did
it." - Albertina Walker
We will miss you Queen!!!

June has been label as Black
Music Month. This is the month the nation has set aside to place emphasis
on the history, artistry and culture of Black Music. Well, for those that visit
this site you know that here each month we celebrate the history, artistry and
culture of traditional gospel quartet music. We do, however, encourage each of
you to take the time this month and tell a young person about the gospel quartet
genre. If you do, you will be aiding in ensuring that the rich history of
gospel quartet music is past along to the next generation.

We just received the new CD
Introducing The
Anointed Brothers of Flint, Michigan.
What an outstanding project. There are twelve songs on the project. There are
many original materials on this CD. The Public Domain songs on the project
certainly have original arrangements. This may be the group's first
CD, but they are certainly not neophytes to the music industry. They are
polished outstanding singers. And, they know how to deliver a message that
ministers to the listener.

MALACLO announces the addition of
Lil Blair to the 4 Winds / Malaco Roster
At the American Gospel Quartet Convention in Birmingham this past week, during
the Hall of Fame Luncheon, in front of a couple of hundred witnesses, 4 Winds /
Malaco signed Lil Blair &
The Fantastic Heirs.
WHAAAAT! Lil Blair & The Fantastic Heirs, WHAAAAT!
Lil Blair & The Fantastic Heirs…
OKAY!!! (Couldn’t resist) Lol!!!
Formally known as Lil
Blair & The Fantastic Violinaires,
the group has officially dropped that name to begin a new era in their Quartet
Gospel ministry and music recording career.
In my opinion, Lil Blair is much too young and talented to spend his entire
career as what may be perceived by some to be a gimmick or tribute band to his
mentor, the late great Robert Blair. I am excited that he has chosen to honor
the Quartet legend and keep his legacy alive by taking everything he had learned
from him and applying it to his own unique ministry in which Robert Blair
himself gave his blessings and passed the mantle to as his true apparent heir.

Two Thousand
Ten is here.
We thank God for allowing us to see this New Year. And, it is
our continued prayer that it is a blessed year for all.
Two Thousand Nine was another year of 'ups and downs' in this
genre. Many saints transitioned into eternal rest last
year. For instance, Chequita Lumzy
of
The
Lumzy Sisters,
Tommy Ellison
of Tommy Ellison and The Singing Stars,
Rev. Claude Jeter, founder of
The Swan Silvertones,
Johnny Fields of The Five Blinds Boys of Alabama, Mr.
Melvin Couch and Torrance "Poochie" Walker of The
EchoAires are just some of the individuals
that were affiliated with this genre who "crossed over" in 2009.
There were many concerts featuring gospel quartet singers during
2009. If you viewed the calendar of some of the major artists
of the genre during 2009, you noticed that they were singing somewhere
almost every weekend. And, there were countless anniversaries,
banquets, and gathering featuring local and regional gospel quartet
singers; just take a look at the Program and Events' category of the
QC Message Board.
Many gospel quartet groups released new CDs, and in some instances
DVDs, last year. Just take a look at Gloryland Gospel's Top
20 Chart. Major labels, small labels and independents ensured
that there was a continuous supply of new gospel quartet music throughout the year.
Overall, 2008 was a good year for gospel quartet music. And,
we look for greater and better things to come from this genre during
2010.
