There are programs that happen each year that you can actually plan your quartet gospel calendar around. For instance, anyone involved with quartet gospel know that on the First Sunday in October, all roads lead to Augusta for The Swanee Quintet's Anniversary. And, for over 30 years the Blockbuster Showdown has taken place in Florence, South Carolina during the first part of March. Luther Barnes, Son of "Mr Rough Side Of The Mountain" The Late Great F.C. Barnes, has forged his own place and has made his own mark in the history of Gospel music.

Lil Sonny & The Peacemakerz have released a CD titled Peace That Passeth All Understanding. This is a very good CD from the son of the singer Lil Sonny that is a member of The Brooklyn Allstars.

Gospel Quartet Music has had 10 great months in 2011. There is no reason why the remaining two months can not be even more successful. Normally new projects are not released in November. However, this November may buck that trend. Take a look at the new entries into Gloryland Gospel Top 20 Chart. And, we expect several new projects from some of the minor labels. In addition, projects released in the past 30 to 60 days should begin to get the attention they deserve this month. Mrs. Mary Bonner (mother of David Bonner of Lil David and The Soulful Knights of Atlanta, Georgia) died on Monday, August 29, 2011.

September has been designated Gospel Music Heritage Month. Of course, gospel quartet fans know that each and every day is a day to celebrate the rich history of gospel music. Read the first resolution passed by Congress designating September as Gospel Music Heritage Month.

One of the most recognized record label in gospel music is MCG Records. It is the label that launched the career of Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC's. At the helm of the label is Mr. James Bullard. Mr. Bullard has worked with some of the greatest artists of this genre; such as, Shirley Caesar, The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Slim & The Supreme Angels. So, we have decided to dedicate an entire 5-day broadcast to just MCG's quartet gospel artists. August 2011, is sure to be one of the most talked about month in the Quartet Gospel Music Genre. First, there is the annual event held by the Stevensons in Rome, Georgia. The program will be headlined this year by The Mighty Clouds of Joy and Doc McKenzie & The Hi-Lites. Secondly, this is the month that Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC"s will do another Live Recording. Unlike the others, this one will take place in Decatur, Georgia. And, thirdly, there are many �back to school" quartet gospel concert scheduled this month. These concerts offer the ideal opportunity for groups to give back to their community and to introduce a new generation of listeners to the music of this genre.

We enter the month of August mourning the death of one of the great quartet gospel promoters, James "Bo"� Gamble. Mr. Gamble was the driving force behind the very successful Blockbuster Showdown program that was held in Florence, SC, each year.

BISHOP F. C. BARNES PASSES TODAY

The Malaco Music Group regrets to inform you that Gospel Icon, Bishop F. C. Barnes passed away early Monday morning, July 11, 2011 at approximately 2:30 am. He was 82.

Bishop Barnes began singing in quartets when he was 14 years old. He would later record eight albums with Rev. Janice Brown and "Rough Side of the Mountain" became the most popular album remaining #1 on the gospel charts for more than a year, selling over 500,000 copies. Bishop Barnes spent his entire recording career on Atlanta International Records, (Air Gospel) a subsidiary of The Malaco Music Group. He recorded 15 albums, not including appearances on several LP's with his son, Gospel Legend Luther Barnes and the widely successful direct marketing campaign infomercial entitled, Gospel Legends.

Bishop Barnes has received numerous Stellar Award nominations as well as a Dove Award nomination. In 2010, Bishop Barnes & Company received a Stellar Award nomination for their latest CD "The Old Time Way." On this CD, he recorded his first collaboration since Rev. Janice Brown with Darrell Luster on the single, "God Is God" (He Won't Change) which received considerable airplay and garnered an appearance on BET's Bobby Jones Gospel.

"I was saddened when I received the news of the passing of Bishop F. C. Barnes. Bishop Barnes was the true patriarch of his family, consummate leader to his church ministry, highly dedicated professional in his dealings with his music ministry and always a gentleman. He wrote one of the greatest songs of all time so I affectionately referred to him as, "Mr. Rough Side Of The Mountain" I'm honored to have had the opportunity to serve in his music legacy. Bishop F. C. Barnes will be greatly missed."

The obvious reference in the title is to the late Tommy Ellison Ã¢â‚¬â€œ who was referred to in this genre as The Superstar. According to Sam Williams, the CD is dedicated to not only The Superstar, but also to the late Dennis Bowers.

July is here. As you enjoy the 4th of July, think about all the activities relating to quartet gospel that have occurred during the past six (6) months. We have been introduced to new projects from independents and major labels. There have been gospel quartet concerts every weekend in many parts of the country. And, sadly, there have been many deaths in the quartet gospel community.

It is our prayer that the groups and artists of this go into the next six months committed more than ever to bringing souls to Christ. After all, we should never forget the reason why this music is so important.

4Clouds Records signed The Sons Of Favor of Indianapolis, Indiana. The group was on the Low Rush Music label. Their new CD for 4Clouds records will be titled The Journey and should be released this year.

Mary Pugh & The Pugh Singers of Grove Hill, Alabama, is scheduled to release their new CD, A New Beginning, on July 23, 2011.

WOS Records recently released the CD Detroit Quartets On Parade Volume 1. On this project are Curtis Turrentine & Revived, Daughters Of Vision, Voices Of Wonders, Sounds Of Faith, Joe Agee & God�s Good Ole Boys, and Evelyn Turrentine-Agee & The Warriors.

We received the soon to be released CD by The Kingdom Travelers of Richmond/Hayward, California. There are 10 songs on the CD; such as, "Bye And Bye," "Heavy Load," "Balm In Gilead," and "Jesus Is My Friend." Live In Chicago II was a project released by AMEC Records. Quartets on the project are The Douglas Singers, The Holy Disciples, The Sensational Harmoneers, The Heavenly King Juniors, Witness For Christ, The Inspirational Souls, The Brown Brothers, The Family Jubilees, and The Universal Jubilaires.

"I Looked Down The Line" was a big hit for The Spiritual Clouds Of Joy. The group was from the Plain/Jackson areas of Mississippi. The song was on the album titled I Look Down The Line. MCG Records will be releasing the CD Medicine later this month. The project is the work of The Black Academy Of Arts And Letters. Artists on the project include Reuben Studdard, Jasmine Guy and Ann Nesby.

The Flint Cavaliers are now on the Low Rush Label. Last year the group released a single titled "Havin' Church." The single will be included on the new project. Look for the new project later this year.

This month MCG Records will release the new Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC�s CD titled God�s Groove! � The Re-Mix. The Re-Mix consists of eleven of the most exciting and spiritually touching songs from Lee. The songs have been updated with powerful arrangements including a rap artist.

Johnny Gatlin of Oakland, California, most recent project is titled The Sanctified Review Project Volume #1. There are several good quartet gospel songs on the CD. The 70�s soul music arrangements flow throughout the project.

Bishop Fred A. Jones, Sr., and Family Style Records have released a great solo project by Alexis Jones. The 16 track project is titled Simply Alexis � Just Being Me. Many songwriters and artists of this genre contributed to the project.

DAR Records of Wirtz, Virigina, has released the CD Make Me Over by Bubba Johnson & The Omega Singers of Virginia and Glory To You Lord by the group Glorious. Glorious is an A Cappella group that is following in the footsteps of The Fairfield Four. Bubba Johnson�s project is nothing but down home gospel quartet music. The McDonald Sisters have released a 2-play with songs from the CD Live In Conway, South Carolina. The songs on the 2-play are "Will You Meet Me" and "He�s A Shelter."

Everywhere I Go is the titled of one of the most recent release by The Voices of Clouds. This group has been recording great gospel music for over 50 years. They also recorded under the name Charlie Wells and The Voices of Clouds. The newest project will have you looking for older projects from this group. Rev. R. L. Bush & The Revived Sons (of Brooklyn, NY) are scheduled to release their debut CD on August 9, 2011. The project was produced by Spanky Williams. Williams and Bishop Darrell McFadden are guest artists on the project.

Revelation S.E.E.D. Featuring Family and Friends (of South Florida) have released their third CD titled He's Still God. There are fifteen (15) songs on the CD. The project may very well elevate this dynamic group to the next level.

Tony & The Magnificent Voices (of Durham, NC) are scheduled to release their new CD on July 31, 2011. If the songs on the CD are anything like their live performances, it should be an awesome project.

�Spurred by the songwriter and record producer Kenny Gamble, President Jimmy Carter in 1979 designated June as Black Music Month.� Thus, June has become the designated month to celebrate the rich history of Black Music. This is the month the nation has set aside to place emphasis on the history, artistry and culture of Black Music. Well, for those that visit this site you know that here each month we celebrate the history, artistry and culture of traditional gospel quartet music. We do, however, encourage each of you to take the time this month and tell others (particularly young people) about the music that makes up the gospel quartet genre.

Mirror Image International announces that The Marable Twins (Jerry and Kerry), along with the group, are planning to return to the studio to work on their next project. If you were blessed by the previous two - Songs With A Message From The Heart and The Time Is Now, the upcoming project should become one of your favorites. The release will feature 10-12 songs. The Twins will be accompanied by some of your favorite lead singers in quartet music. Mirror Image International is continuing its tradition of presenting, producing and promoting music with a message for the masses.

The Blind Boys Of Alabama have called upon some of the household names of the Country Music genre for their new CD, Take The High Road. On this project you will hear the group's duet with Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, and The Oak Ridge Boys.

The All MALACO broadcast on Gloryland Gospel Quartet Radio was well received. The number one ranked song by listeners last week was The Pilgrim Jubilee Singers - Church Song. Number 2 was Tommy Ellison & The Singing Stars � Hard To Get Along. Number 3 was Willie Banks & The Messengers � In The Name of Jesus. Number 4 was The Pilgrim Jubilees � Old Ship of Zion. Hosia Thomas of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, has released a solo project titled A Little Higher. There are 13 tracks on the project. There are songs like �Just Trust,� �Jesus Rose,� �Stand By Me� and �Thank You.� In addition, Thomas is joined by R. J. Sandifer and Earnest Thomas on �He Touch Me.� And, he shares lead with Cynthia R. Scott on �In The Street.�

Probably the most recognized record label in gospel music is MALACO. It is certainly the dominant label for quartet gospel music. With seven (7) quartet gospel projects released thus far this year, MALACO has assigned itself the title of �Gospel Quartet Supremacy.� So, we have decided to dedicate an entire week�s broadcast to just MALACO quartet gospel artists. The Shepherds (of flint, Michigan) are back in the studio working on their sixth CD. There will be 10 songs on the project. We understand it will include The Shepherds' rendition of "Grace and Mercy. The project should be released next year.

The (Northern Kentucky) Brotherhood Singers were privileged to participate in an All A Cappella competition on Saturday March 26, 2011, in Chicago. The group won 1st place for the Midwest Region. They will participate in the national competition on May 14, 2011. The group has also been nominated for �Quartet of the Year� 2011 Urban Inspirational Awards. They are scheduled to sing during the 2011 Urban Inspirational Awards Show.

April will be another good month for gospel quartet music. It begins with the long awaited live recording of Darrell McFadden & The Disciples. The recording is scheduled for Saturday, April 2, 2011, at Christian Faith Center, 101 South Peach Street, Creedmoor, North Carolina.

The annual SC Gospel Quartet Awards Program was held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Lower Richland High School, Hopkins, South Carolina. The morning session consisted of workshops relating to the gospel music industry. The evening session included a concert featuring Flossie Boyd Johnson & Favor, Spirit of Columbia, Sister Mary Myers & The Team of Joy, The National Juniors, The Redeemers, The New Israelites, and Big Bubba & The Eternal Harmonizers.

Women of Strength of Columbia, South Carolina, will be releasing their CD entitled Ministry during the Spring of 2011. New Vision Records Label is �excited for them because their ministry is powerful and [they] have no doubt the CD will save souls and heal hearts.�

Sister Mary Myers and The Team of Joy Gospel Singers released their new CD on Sunday, March 13, 2011, at their anniversary program. The headliners for the program were The Fantastic Violinaires and Darrell McFadden & The Disciples. The concert represented Charlie Brown first concert with The Fantastic Violinaires after his recent illness.

Glenn Stevenson provided us with a copy of The Swanee Quintet�s 70 Years The Legacy Continues project. This is a very significant recording. It represents the group�s 70 years of singing the Good News. And, it is the first recording with all new music by the group since the death of the last original member, James �Big Red� Anderson.

Thousands attended the Blockbuster Showdown Gold Cup Awards in Florence, South Carolina, on Saturday, March 12, 2011. The winner of the Gold Cup was Luther Barnes and The Sunset Jubilaires. Second place winner was The Brooklyn Allstars. The third place winner was Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC�s.

The Virginia Aires and Terry Frazier and The Tears of Joy have been added to The Blockbuster Showdown Gold Cup Awards program scheduled for later today in Florence, South Carolina.

J. B. & Focus most recent release is titled Jesus Is A Rock. The CD is the best yet released by the group. On this one they tackled Man In The Middle � a song made famous by Doc McKenzie and The Gospel Hi-Lites.

Jeffery Newberry, of The Gospel Keynotes, informed us that their new falsetto singer is Shaun Thompson. Shaun is the grandson of Horace Thompson of The Sensational Nightingales. Larry McGowan describes him as the next great falsetto singer in gospel music. He compares Shaun to Rev. Claude Jeter and Paul Beasley. He contends Shaun will be as dominating a force in gospel music as Jeter and Beasley.

Men In Christ has released a 3-play titled Trust In The Lord. Along with the title track, other songs on the CD are "Lord, Somebody Needs You" and "I Feel Good." The group is from Raeford, North Carolina. And, the lead singer on the 3-play is Donald Livingston.

The Family Reunion Fest 2011 was well attended. Albany was certainly the place to be for fans of Gospel Quartet Music on February 12, 2011. The lineup was a virtual whose who of the 'top echelon' of gospel quartet music � Lee, Doc, Harvey, Swanees, Jubes and The Mighty Clouds of Joy were there.

The Gospel Incredibles are working on a new CD. The project will feature guest performances by some well known gospel quartet lead singers. Look for the new project later this year.

You will probably describe Terry Frazier & The Tears Of Joy as a new group with seasoned members. The bandleader for their project Keep Lookin' To The Hills is none other than Benny Hill. Yes, the same Benny Hill that came a household name will playing for Doc McKenzie and The Gospel Hi-Lites.

There is a new group from Alabama that is about to burst onto the National Stage. And, that group is none other than Redeemed. Their debut CD is titled The Journey Begins. Looking for an exciting �up and coming� group, check out these guys.

The WOW Gospel 2011 project has been released by Verity Records. Gospel quartet fans will find songs like "I'll Be There" by The Mighty Clouds of Joy "So Good To Me," by Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC's, and "Favor" by Shirley Caesar on this 2-disc package. In addition to the WOW project, Verity also recently released the The Legacy Project by John P. Kee. Rance Allen, Joe Ligon, Doug Williams, Harvey Watkins, Jr., and many others are featured on The Legacy Project.

Remember The Turner Brothers (of Apopka, Florida)? They had a reasonably successful recording a few years ago with the CD titled A Family That Prays Together Stays Together. The popular single from that project was "Pay Day." Well, we understand that the group is working on a new project. If the new recording is anything like their first, look out for a power packed project that is sure to minister to the listeners.

February is the month set aside to �formally� celebrate Black History. Fans of traditional gospel quartet music actually celebrate Black History every time they play their favorite recording from the past.

During this month, take the opportunity to share the rich history of gospel quartet music with someone, particularly young people. Tell them about the trailblazers. Tell them how The Caravans, The Swanee Quintet, The Dixie Hummingbirds, The Harmonizing Four, The Fairfield Four, The Swan Silvertones, The Victory Travelers, Clara Ward, The Gospel Harmonettes, and many others, paved the way for the gospel (no matter what the format) artists of today. Don�t miss the opportunity to talk about the History of this genre. And, for the groups and singers that will be performing (ministering) this month, why not incorporate a song or two from the pioneers of Gospel Quartet Music into your performance (service). What a great way to help keep the music alive and to share the history of this genre.

Not much was said about The Gospel Keynotes touring the Middle East during the holiday. The primary reason for the silence was security. But, it should be known that from December 20, 2010 to January 4, 2011, members of The Gospel Keynotes ministered to the troops throughout Iraq. According to reports from the Middle East, the guys really lifted the moral of those that attended the concerts. Check out the guys by clicking HERE.

For all those that have inquired, YES � The Blockbuster will take place this year. According to the organizers, the 31^st year of the Blockbuster should be one of the best. The organizers are planning a 'full-court press' ad campaign that will begin on February 1, 2011. The group Connection from Houston, Texas, new CD is titled Unleashed. This is the group�s third project. There are some great songs on the CD. It is sure to put the group in high demand for appearances in 2011.

Bishop Fred A. Jones, Sr. & The Jones Family Singers are once again taking their music to the �next level.� The new CD is titled Next Level #2. Check out the group�s version of The Fantastic Violinaires� "I Can�t Refuse."

Doc McKenzie and The Hi-Lites are working on a new project. We understand that during this month, when they are not on the road, they are in the studio. It is expected that the new CD will have all new songs. Look for the release later this year.

The Echoaires new CD is finally released. Ol' Skool ~ Nu Flava is sure to become a favorite of gospel quartet fans across the country. Like their Transformation Live In Memphis, TN project, this one is also on the Ecko Records' label.

Dr. Andrew Cheairs & The Songbirds have released a 3-play titled Makeover. The songs on the CD are "One More Day" (Album Version), "Makeover," and "One More Day" (Radio Version).

We finally received the new CD by Lady Voncile Belcher. Ms. Belcher is an awesome singer. She has sung (and recorded) with some of the best choirs in the country. Her new solo CD is titled Kourageous. It is on the Low Rush label.

A young group that should get a lot of air play in 2011 is Totally Committed. Their New CD is titled The Time Has Come.... . With the new CD, the group's time is now. Read more about the group at Gloryland Gospel Blog .

The Peacemakers new CD is titled I Won't Look Back. There are some great songs on this project. Check out the guys version of "I Woke Up This Morning."

We believe 2011 is going to be great year for the quartet gospel genre. There are many �new� gospel quartet groups that are sure to make an indubitable impact on this genre in 2011. We will continue to champion their music and those of all the artists of this genre. In addition, we will, for 2011, shine a light on the Legends of this genre. Two Thousand Eleven is here. We thank God for allowing us to see this New Year. And, it is our continued prayer that it is a blessed year for all.

Two Thousand Ten was another year of 'ups and downs' in this genre. Many saints transitioned into eternal rest last year. See the video at Gloryland Gospel Blog.

There were many concerts featuring gospel quartet singers during 2010. If you viewed the calendar of some of the major artists of the genre during 2010, you noticed that they were singing somewhere almost every weekend. And, there were countless anniversaries, banquets, and gathering featuring local and regional gospel quartet singers.

Many gospel quartet groups released new CDs, and in some instances DVDs, last year. Just take a look at Gloryland Gospel's Top 20 Chart. Major labels, small labels and independents ensured that there was a continuous supply of new gospel quartet music throughout the year.

Overall, 2010 was a good year for gospel quartet music. And, we look for greater and better things to come from this genre during 2011 - The Year Of The Legends.
