The Racy Brothers

I Won't Forget

The Racy Brothers' last project was in 1997.  The ‘seven’ year hiatus is over.  Their new project, “I Won’t Forget,” is now in the marketplace.

In 1997 MCG released the self-titled project “The Racy Brothers.”  The songs on that project were “More Like Jesus,” “I Know You Care,” “Never Could Have Made It,”  “Touch Me,” “Hold Me Father,” “A Blessing,” “Hard Times,” “I'll Do Anything,” “Thank You,” “Come Too Far,” and “A Real Friend.”

The new project is titled “I Won’t Forget.”  There are several reasons why you will definitely not forget this project.  This project will definitely surprise you.  First, for fans of The Racy Brothers, you will notice that all the songs from the 1997 project, except “A Real Friend,” are on this project. Secondly, the most recognized voice in gospel quartet music today is joined with the Racy Brothers on the song “Touch Me.”  Lee Williams, who is given credit for writing this song, shares the lead singer duties.  Thirdly, although eleven of the songs on this project are from the 1997 project, they do have a fresh sound.

On “Touch Me,” Lee personalizes the story from Luke 8:43-48.  Lee’s storytelling talents really shine through in this song.  This song is, without a doubt, the best song on the project.

The two new songs on this project are the title track “I Won’t Forget” and God’s Been Good.  They were written by Walter Witherspoon III.  Those of you that are gospel quartet enthusiasts are familiar with Walter and his awesome talents.  Dwight Gordon joins him in the writing of the remaining eight songs.  These gentlemen are two of the best writers, musicians and producers in the industry today.  Therefore, on the strength of these gentlemen's talents alone, this project is a must for your collection.

The actual producers of this project are Walter Witherspoon, Dwight Gordon, James Bullard and Jerry Peters.  So, one of the first things that jumps out at you regarding the two new songs is the MCG flare.  The Gospel Four or Slim & The Supreme Angels could have easily recorded these songs.  Even so, the new songs are great.

The re-mastering of the remaining nine tracks does give them a fresh sound.  Of note is the song “More Like Jesus.”  There is a challenging message in this song.  This song will also probably be considered the drive song.

On the whole this release from The Racy Brothers, even with only two new songs, is a good project.  We give The Racy Brothers “I Won’t Forget" an 7.5 out of 10.  To order this project click “II Won’t Forget.”  Click on the title to hear “God’s Been Good.”
