In 2004, NuSound
Entertainment Group brought together five (5) quartet groups and three (3)
soloists to record The Gospel According to. . . A Musical Celebration of
Spirit and Praise! The artist chosen for this historic recording were
Bishop Richard “Mr. Clean” White, Sister Katie Sankey, Ms. Melba Moore,
The Brooklyn Allstars, The South Florida Gospel Singers, The Uplifters,
Lil Blair & The Violinaires, and Rev. Charlie Brown & The Saints.
The recording took place at The Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church,
where the Pastor is Reverend Mark A. Couch.
The Brooklyn
Allstars, the first
artist on the video, starts the program with “I Stood On The Bank Of
The Jordan.” About twenty (20) minutes into the recording they
return with “Same God.” This is probably the last video
recording of group member Joe Yawn. Mr. Yawn died not long
thereafter. See our review of these songs at our review of
The Brooklyn Allstars’
CD LIVE! In Atlanta! At The Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church.
The second artist to perform was
Sister Katie Sankey.
She is one great songstress. She delivers with “God Made Me In His
Image.” About 40 minutes later she was back with "He
Is My Joy." After
Sister Sankey,
Bishop Richard “Mr.
Clean” White had
the audience responding to "Jesus Got Me Off." About
30 minutes later he slowed things down with "More Than You’ll Ever
Know."
Lil Blair & The
Violinaires
expressed themselves with "I’m Gonna Serve The Lord." They
were back in 30 minutes with "Stand By Me Lord." The
group was kind of thin, but they did a good performance. Between
Lil Blair
and the guys were
Melba Moore,
The Uplifters,
and The South
Florida Gospel Singers.
Ms. Moore
sang "The Other Side OF The Rainbow" and "Life Every
Voice And Sing." She sang to tracks, instead of with live
musicians. She did a excellent rendition of "Life Every Voice
And Sing."
The Uplifters
showed that they are ready for primetime with "Shower You Blessings"
and "He IS My Joy."
The South Florida Gospel Singers
put a lot of energy into "On The Battlefield." And,
Charlie Brown and The Saints
closed out the program with "Holy
Ghost." They
displayed enough energy for everyone. They seem to truly interact
exceptionally well with the congregation.
The video is about 85 minutes long. The quality of the sound is goof. There are
no variations in the recording level of any the songs.
The lighting is not bad. There are many close-ups of the members of the
group and musicians. There are few, if any, shots of the audience.
Because of the size of the audience, the group appeared to be very close to the
congregation. Also, some creativity is shown in the way the production
team took advantage of strobe lighting.
Unfortunately, there are no interviews on this video. With groups
like
The South Florida Gospel Singers
and
The Uplifters
on this video, it would have been great to have an interview from the groups.
In addition, the members of the groups are not identified in the credits.
Therefore, one is left to determine by other means who the singers and
musicians are that took part in this recording.
The project represents a piece of gospel music history that you will be
disappointed when in the future it becomes very had to find. If you are
looking for a video that captures the essence of gospel music that
includes quartet
singing from various artist that you ordinarily would not be able to find
on the same project, then you will want to add this video to your collection.
Overall it is a good
video.
