This month we review the video by
Flossie And The Singing
Sisters titled Live At
Home. The recording took place at the groups hometown of Bishopville, SC in
2005.
Flossie And The Singing
Sisters have been
signing Gods praises for over 20 years. The longevity of the group is
reflected in their performance. These ladies can really sing. The group
recently changed their name to
Flossie Boyd Johnson and Favor. Only the name
has changed. If you have heard
Flossie Boyd Johnson and Favor's new CD titled
Thankful, you know that they have not changed their style.
The members of the group for this video are Flossie Boyd Johnson, Bennetta
Taylor, Amy Brown and Danielle Boyd. The band members are Eric Miller (Lead
Guitar), Anthony Amp Brown (Bass Guitar), John Bean Smith (Drums), Alphonzo
Montgomery (Organ) and Ulsseys McKiver, IV (Piano).
There are 11 songs on this video. They are You Can't Make It To Heaven, Let
Me Lean On You, He Will Make A Way, Pay Day, Sinner Man, Give Me
Strength, We've Come This Far, Gospel Medley, What A Friend, King
Jesus, and Jesus Want Let Me Suffer.
Each song is rooted in the traditional gospel quartet style. Therefore, with
this video you get one hour and 10 minutes of good old fashion gospel quartet
music.
The location for the recording seemed to have been a good choice. The stage was
large enough and the group used every portion of the stage. In addition, the
band had plenty of room so the members are not clustered together.
The quality of the sound is great. There are no variations in the recording
level to some of the songs.
The camera shots are very impressive. There are really great close-ups of the
members of the group and the band.
There are also extraordinary shots of the audience just at the right time. The audience
is an integral part of the recording. The group displays a lot of energy
throughout the video. And, the audience feeds of that energy. Thus, the
audience can be seen rejoicing, shouting, singing and just having a wonderful
time as they are led in the services by the group.
The project is vintage traditional gospel quartet. If you are looking for
a good video that captures the essence of female singers that have the down home traditional gospel
sound, then you will want to add
this video to your collection.
