This month we review the new
DVD by
Apostle J L Cash & Praise
titled I Got A Feelin' Live. This is one of three DVDs that
were recorded by MCG Records on May 2, 2009, in Memphis, Tennessee. The
others being
Lee Williams & The Spiritual
QCs Fall On
Me and yet untitled recording by
The Gospel Legends.
The venue for this recording was the Temple of Deliverance. The backdrop
of the Temple of Deliverance makes for the perfect setting for this
recording.
Apostle Cash & Praise
consist of over 12 members (plus praise dancers) and the stage was large
enough to accommodate the entire group. The stage setting allows you to
focus on the singers and not be distracted by any unnecessary activity on
or around the stage. The camera shots allow you to get close up and
personal with the all members of the group and those in the audience. As
with all of MCGs live recordings, the audience is a significant part of
the project.
Apostle Cash & Praise
mix jazz, traditional gospel chords and drum lines, and seventy rhythm and
blues arrangements to bring you 80 minutes of exciting ministry in songs. The
DVD appears to capture the concert just as performed. So, you really do
feel that you are at the concert, from beginning to end. On the video the
songs are - "Blessed Be Your Name, Washed By The Water,
Irreplaceable, He Keeps Blessing Me, Thanks For Making Me Wait, Old
Church Medley, I Can Only Imagine, I Surrender All, I Got A Feelin,
What Will You Be Doing (When Jesus Come), The Lord Will Make A Way
(Somehow), Leaning On The Everlasting Arms/Swing Low Sweet Chariot,
When Love Is In The House, and the bonus track Help Me Jesus."
As you look at the video you can feel, and see, how the members of the
group put their all into each song. Apostle Cash shares lead duties with
several members of
Praise. The background singers are 8 in number and the
choreography is outstanding. Often, gospel quartet groups spend very
little time perfecting the choreography for each song. Well, that is
certainly not the case on this project. The choreography of the background
singers and the praise dancers are as much a part of conveying the message
of each song as the musicians.
Once again, this video proves that MCG has developed the right formula for
recording a live DVD. The audience is not on top of the singers. The
facilities are the best. The overall setting is superb. The lighting is
perfect. The quality of the sound is outstanding. There are no highs or
lows in the sound quality. The recording level is consistent throughout
the video.
Unfortunately, you will not find any interviews of his video. However, in
between songs Apostle Cash talks about some of the members of the group,
his upbringing, his mother's influence on his singing, and the musical talents of various members. So, even without
formal interviews you get to know something about the members of the group
and their dedication to ministering to others through gospel music.
If you like good gospel music than you must add this video to your
collection. We Apostle J. L.
Cash & Prasie's I've Got A Feelin'
Live
a 9 out of 10.
