Gospel Parade of Stars is a Two Volumes DVD of some of
Gospels greatest artists. The release is the brainchild of Herman Amis. Mr. Amis is a veteran gospel music promoter, Radio Angel, television personality
and broadcast entrepreneur. There is also a Volumes 3 and 4 DVD. This review is
limited to Volume 2 of the first DVD.
The second volume is subtitled In Weequahic Park With The Legends. The
park is located in Newark, New Jersey. What a perfect setting for an
outdoor concert.
Volume 2 begins with
Rev. Charles G. Hayes & The Cosmopolitan Choir,
of Chicago, Illinois, singing a shorten version of "Jesus Can Work It Out."
The live performance is awesome. Although the performance was on the
outside, it still felt like a Sunday morning praise and worship service.
The Pilgrim Wonders
(of Toledo, Ohio) kept the crowd on their feet with "The Blood,"
"The Time Is Now," and "I’m Not Tired Yet."
The guys did exceptional renditions of each song. They deliver an
extended version (about 7 minutes) of "The Time Is Now."
You will find yourself reminiscing about the time you saw them in concert. The
songs seemed just as relevant today as when recorded.
Next, the legendary
Joe Williams and The Northernaires
is seen taking the stage. They started with "You Can Run But You
Can’t Hide." This was followed by "Nobody But You Lord"
and "I’ll Trust In The Lord." The testimony leading into "Nobody
But You Lord" is reason enough to obtain this DVD.
Rev. Charles G. Hayes & The Cosmopolitan Choir retuned with "Count
Your Blessings" and the long version of "Jesus Can Work It Out."
The crowd showed their appreciation by becoming an extension of the choir.
In other words, they joined the choir in singing the songs instead of just
sitting and observing.
Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes
are also on Volume 2. Along with the late Willie Neal Johnson were
Jeffery, Robert, Gino and Val. They performed "He’ll Be There."
Thereafter, the video moves to a tribute to the late Willie Neal Johnson with
the group singing (in a television studio for The Bobby Jones Show) "Lord
I’ll Do." For this song, the members of the group were the late
Willie Neal Johnson, Charles, Jeffery, Val and Gino. Charles actually shares
lead duties with the legend on this one.
The final song on the video is a tribute to the
Sam Cooke by
The Soul Stirrers.
Right before the song begins, Dillard Crume is seen being interviewed by Ben
Millidleton. The group then sings "Lord
Remember Me." This portion of the
video also occurred in a television studio.
Since many of the
members on this video are deceased. Getting this video may be one of the
final opportunities to actually see them singing together.
The quality of the sound is good throughout the video. The lighting
is great. After all, most of the recording took place outside.
As stated in our review of Volume 1,
in obtaining this video you are acquiring it more for its
historical value. Any glitches in the video is easily overlooked when you
consider the overall worthiness of the recording.
If you like good gospel quartet music, and want a piece
of gospel quartet music history, than you must add this video to your
collection.
We give this video a 9 out of 10. To purchase
