Mention the name ‘Melvin Williams’ and immediately everyone know you talking about one of the members of The Williams Brothers.  Melvin has been singing gospel music, probably, since he learned to talk.  His life’s work is rooted in traditional gospel music.  Therefore, it was not a surprise to receive the DVD titled The Best Of Melvin Williams.

There are ten (10) songs on the DVD.  It begins with "So Good."  This clip is taken from the project In Living Color “Live,” which was released in 1992.  Melvin seems to enjoy the setting of the small church in which the video was recorded. You really get to see him interacting with (and enjoying) the attendees.

"Never Seen Your Face" is the next video.  You will remember this clip from the project The Concert.  It was recorded during the summer of 1999 and released in 2000.  The K&K Mime made the performance of this song one that will never be forgotten.

Harvey Watkins, Jr. (of The Canton Spirituals) makes his first appearance on this DVD when he joins Melvin in "Be With Me Jesus."  This is also taken from the In Living Color “Live” project.  As you watch this clip, listen closely to Harvey’s strong vocals.  We have always felt that Harvey gave one of his best performances with this song.

The first concept video on the DVD is "Another Blessing," featuring Melvin and
Lee Williams.  Melvin initially released this song on the Crazy Like Love CD in 2007.  On that same CD was also the song "Jesus Is Love."  The video clip for this song gives you the feel of sitting in The House of Blues at a Sunday brunch.

Next, Melvin takes you back to The Concert project with "Pray On My Child."  Doug and Green join him on this one and they show why
The Williams Brothers always 'wreck the house.'  The Brothers really know how to work a drive song.  And, you get to experience their live performance of one of their great drive songs with their rendition of "Pray On My Child."

In 2001 Melvin and Doug released the project Duet.  On that project was the song "Just To Say Thank You."  This video was surely made for television.  The cameras are on Melvin and Doug for the entire song.  They deliver this song with such energy and powerful vocals.

The DVD returns to In Living Color “Live” project with "Won’t Be A Storm Always."  This is another song that features
Harvey Watkins, Jr.  On the In Living Color “Live” CD, the song is divided into two parts.  On the DVD there is no division, you get to enjoy the entire 11 minutes 53 seconds.

The ever popular "Cooling Water" featuring Lee Williams is the next concept video on the DVD.  And, finally the project ends with a concept video from
Tim Rogers & The Fellas titled "Happy."  This is a pleasant addition (bonus video) to the DVD.

The earliest recording by Melvin on this DVD is from 1992. Melvin was a part of numerous recordings years before 1992.  If there is any disappointment in the DVD it is that the earlier years of this extraordinary vocalist were not included in a project titled The Best of.  Having said that, a single DVD that contains the concept videos Another Blessings and Cooling Waters is certainly worth being in the collection of any serious fan of gospel quartet music.

We give The Best of Melvin Williams an 8.5 out of 10.  To order your copy of the DVD click HERE
