On March 17, 2009, MCG Records released a compilation CD on
Lee Williams & The
Spiritual QC’s titled The Collection. Now we have
The Collection on DVD.
The Collection DVD is actually a compilation taken from four of the group’s
previous projects – Love Will Go All The Way, Good Time, Right On Time and Tell
The Angels.
The songs on the DVD, like the CD, do not necessarily represent the best of
Lee
Williams & The Spiritual QC’s, but it is a good anthology of songs from the
Number One Gospel Quartet Group in the land.
From the Tell The Angels' DVD are the songs "Jesus Rose,"
"He's Coming," and "Whom
Shall I Fear." From The Right On Time DVD are the songs
"Have Your Way" and "Right
On Time." From the mega best seller Good Time DVD, the songs are
"You Didn’t Have
To" and "Let’s Go Down." And, from the project that started the group’s climb to
the top, Love Will Go All The Way, you have the songs "Running For My Life,"
"Let’s Go Fishing," "In The Midnight Hour," and "I’ve Learn To Lean." You will notice
from the songs listed that "Another Blessing," which is on The Collection CD, is
not on the DVD.
The performance of all of the songs is powerful. Lee is at his best. And, the
early clips from Love Will Go All The Way even shows a somewhat animated Lee
Williams.
There are many close-ups of the members of the group. There are also great
shots of the audience. The audience is always an integral part of any recording
by
Lee Williams & The Spiritual QC’s. And, the compilation project really
showcases the various audiences’ involvement with all their recordings. And,
you are never left in the dark wonder if members of the congregation were
enjoying themselves.
The quality of the sound is superb. No highs and no lows. The recording level
is consistent throughout the video. The lighting is also consistent throughout
each clip on the video.
The Love Will Go All The Way project was actually recorded at at East Birmingham Church of God in Christ, Birmingham,
Alabama, in 1998. All the other DVDs were recorded at Temple of Deliverance
Church in Memphis, Tennessee.
This project is nothing but good ole fashion traditional gospel quartet music.
It is one of the best compilations DVD to be released by a quartet gospel
group. This is another one of those videos that capture the fullness of great
gospel quartet singing. You will want to add this one to your collection.
We give The Collection DVD a 9 out of 10. You should be able to find the DVD at
your local music store. To order it online, click
